FSU fell well short of what their goal for the season was, but the 'Noles complete a 12-2 season with a BCS win. It's a step in the right direction.

I thought FSU was dreadful for much of the game. This is why I said that NIU wasn't worthy of a BCS bowl bid.

 

It should also be a lesson to the NIU QB who predicted the NIU offense would have the FSU D "on their knees" due to how well NIU would move the ball.

 

As someone on Twitter pointed out FSU was indeed on their knees in the 2nd half - victory formation.

Possibly true but that's a really low bar to hurdle and hardly worthy of a team playing in the Music City Bowl much less a BCS bowl.

I'm just saying that NIU was there because they deserved to be by conference record. They were definitely overmatched by size and speed, but that doesn't mean they should tuck their heads in their tails and let some other non deserving SEC or so called BCS qualifier take their spot in the game. From what I saw, it was a scent game to watch up until early to mid 4th. No worse than Baylor blowing out UCLA.

It's a BCS bowl game. Conference affiliation should not matter. Best 8 teams should be there and it WAS obvious and is NOW obvious that NIU wasn't close to being deserving.

The statement that you "think" NIU would put a better fight than a 2-win bad football validates the thinking that NIU was not deserving of a BCS berth.

Best get used to it. Under the new format, NIU would have gotten the guaranteed 6th AQ as being the highest ranked team of the Group of 5 conferences. If we were under that system now, UofL would have been left out. You are going to see a lot more match-ups like this after 2013, not less.

I read a great article just yesterday about how the BCS has made determining a national champion infinitely easier but a side effect has been to increasingly marginalize the other major bowl games. It may be that in establishing the BCS to try and simultaneously protect the old guard and their money and still get a true champion, the old guard has really set in motion the demise of its own system. Just look at Sugar Bowl attendance this year. Terrible.

Using UK as a measuring stick proves my point they did not belong. 200 teams would "compete."
