Do we tell the teams , I know you qualified, but the couch potato critics said you don't belong so go home!......I don't think so. The spread was down to 13, which isn't much for a team that doesn't even deserve to be there. Cmon Man
January 3, 201313 yr I read a great article just yesterday about how the BCS has made determining a national champion infinitely easier but a side effect has been to increasingly marginalize the other major bowl games. It may be that in establishing the BCS to try and simultaneously protect the old guard and their money and still get a true champion, the old guard has really set in motion the demise of its own system. Just look at Sugar Bowl attendance this year. Terrible. I like the idea of win you conference and at least get the chance to play in a BCS Bowl. A lot of NFL players come from some of the non BCS bowl teams. Like you stated, the old guard wants that protection. Time for a change.

January 4, 201313 yr It's a BCS bowl game. Conference affiliation should not matter. Best 8 teams should be there and it WAS obvious and is NOW obvious that NIU wasn't close to being deserving. We all understand that you think NIU wasn't deserving of this game. But didn't they do anything wrong besides meeting all the criteria to be invited to this game? You seem quick to judge NIU but not go against the rest of the teams that didn't meet the criteria. Would you have rather seen Vanderbilt, UCLA, Navy or other BCS teams in this game with worse records? Why should NIU be punished for having a 12-1 record and winning their conference championship when all the did was play within the existing system.

If Louisville hadn't lost to UConn and finished 11-1, they'd have still been ranked in the Top 15 and ahead of Northern Illinois, which wouldn't have obligated the BCS to take a Top 16 non-qualifier. I hate UConn... I really do. They ruin things every chance they get.

When I say the top teams should be in there regardless of affiliation that would seem to me to indicate that I'm making a universal statement and not taking a shot solely at NIU. The shot was CLEARLY at the BCS set up and not at one school. Are you saying that wasn't clear?

The shot was CLEARLY at the BCS set up and not at one school. Are you saying that wasn't clear? That is not the impression that I got from your posts in this thread or the bowl line-up thread. I agree with you 100% that the BCS set-up is far from perfect but it is what we have. Hopefully with the new set-up and future changes that it will turn into a playoff format where the best teams battle it out until a champion stands alone.
