I might be there Friday night. Maybe it's just a case of not having to show any moves since his one move he uses seems to work.

"Your" obviously a big fan. I am a fan as well as everyone says he's a good kid. I know his uncle and if he's like him then he's a good kid.

 

You think he's really good in the low post. I don't. The fact that I do not list others who are "better" doesn't negate my opinion. I can't say it any more clearer than I've ALREADY stated. Most high school bigs have a poor low post game. No moves. No footwork. Just power up through their defender with one move. If you call that a good low post game , fine. We have different definitions.

 

IMO he's more effective out of the post in the games I've seen. Can put the ball on the floor a bit, get fouled, and go the line where he shoots FTs well.

 

I still do not see how him being a sophomore has anything do with how his low post game is NOW. I hope and expect it to get better but I'm talking about NOW since this thread is about this season.

 

It has nothing to do with me being a fan or not. It has everything to do with production. He is the second best low post player in the 9th region behind Campbell and your simply not providing me with anything that should make me think otherwise other than your opinion. This tells me you have not seen him play all that much. I agree he does have the ability to put the ball on the deck and create his own and he is an excellent free throw shooter. His jumpshot is very nice and although he doens't shoot much outside for NCC, he is capable of knocking down outside jumpers and even 3 balls.

 

And no I'm not saying that poor footwork and power moves are good low post moves. It's clear that we are watching two different products out there on the court for NCC. From what I see is a solid low post player as a Sophomore. He is able to finish with contact however he has great back to the basket moves along with very nice touch around the rim. He is crafty with his footwork and touch. He has even slimmed down since summer ball and added muscle.

 

You don't see the value of being a sophomore because you think he is limited in the post. However, I look at his game thinking this kid is only a sophomore and his ability to score the basketball anywhere in the paint is more advanced than just about any other post player in the region at any age. As a sophomore at a school like NCC which is arguably #1 in the region is impressive.

I am glad that Clyde referred to AAU as filled with strong D and scouting reports because as you are mentioning Drew having a great showing against All Ohio Red and if my sources serve me right I believe Drew hung up 40+ points against the "Lex Colonels" who won the King James Shootout Gold Division.

I've probably watched Drew play 8 games. You're confusing "production" (I agree he's productive) with a good low post game. You think he has one. I do not because I haven't seen it in the 8 or so games I've watched him. Now to be fair I've only watched him once this year and even though he did the same thing in that game as last year I will admit that maybe that was just one more game.

 

AAU tells me nothing. I've seen AAU games. Lots of good offensive talent. Very rarely see good individual post D . But, 40 is 40 so congrats to him on that performance.

 

As to my ability watch games I'll put it up there with anyone's. I may not have a lot of skills but THAT is one.

I would have to disagree with you Clyde on Drews low post play. The games I have seen he does a GREAT job of keeping the ball high and I really like his moves around the basket, one of the problems I have noticed at times are the angles of the entry passes from the wings to the post which in turn does make it hard at times for him to score, but to say he doesnt have a low post game.... I would have to disagree. Not only does he have good hands around the basket, his footwork continues to impress me. I do agree about his high post play also and I think that the Schulte kid would agree. He and Drew make a very good hi/lo combo. To me this has the making of a complete player. So I guess we will have to agree to disagree on his big man skills.

 

There is one part of his game that people keep forgetting to mention. Drew does not only move well around the basket, he also is a very unselfish player who does a very good job is distributing the ball to the open man.

 

The part that impressed me also this year was the job he does on defense!! Not many big men in the area are going to hold Campbell to single digits!! The game that I wittinessed against Holy Cross this season was one of the best jobs on defense guarding Campbell that I have seen to this point. Drew's defense seems to go unnoticed at times and when a kid is working this hard on both ends of the court.... well it should be noted. The Holy Cross game is not the only time Drew's defense has made an impact. This young man is developing a solid all around game and as only a soph his future is going to be very bright!!

 

The Breds are going to be a very good team for years to come and McDonald and cast will continue to work very hard to make sure success will continue to happen!!

 

As far as the type of kid Drew is, you are correct, Drew is not only a very good kid, from what I hear he is also a very good student athlete. If you put all of those tools together, he is going to be a very attractive prospect to the college coaches in the future, if not already. I wish the best of luck to this young man and the Breds.

Right now I see D2 (GLVC perhaps). I think he is a very similar player to a Jake Thelen/Jake Geisler. However Drew is around 6'5'' right now. Depending on what he ends up being will have a huge impact. I'm hearing he could get to 6'8''. With that being said I think he is further along than both Thelen and Geisler were as a sophomore. I almost feel like he is a mix between the two. Thelen always had nice touch and Geisler always had the football body to bang down low. Drew has slimmed down and is turning into more of a versatile/finess player rather than just a low post presence. But he can defintely body guys up and score with contact.

 

Also, have to take into consideration that he is an excellent golfer so you never know.

 

With the way he has been improving and if he continues to grow I don't see why he couldn't play at a mid major D1 school. I know the McDonalds are familiar with NKU :thumb: and if Geisler can play there I don't see why Drew couldn't. But again pending on height because that will play a pivitol role in his recruiting.
