Uh, what?

Maybe he meant Walter?

In all seriousness, like I stated in my article, there really isn't much difference between Newcath, Holmes, and Covcath.

Those three are very close in the rankings and I would be fine with people ranking those three in any order in the top 3. I just personally favor the Newcath-Holmes-Covcath order.

Key word in post was COULD.

Newcath 1-4 is a very athletic team. Im a HUGE Nick Seibert fan, as well as Jake Schulte, and I believe Beuter playing off the ball makes Newcath very tough to defend.

It's tough to judge how McDonald would fare against Holmes because he didn't play against them last year but in the second half of that game, when Holmes amped up the pressure and forced the tempo, Newcath seemed to struggle.

The one thing Holmes has going for them in that game is their depth and the fact that it's at Holmes...Covcath will have an advantage over Holmes in their match up with the game being in Park Hills.

Again, this year is all about match ups. 1-4 could beat one another on any given night and you really can't count out Holy Cross, Ryle, or Dixie even though they seem to be at a level below those 4.

It's going to be a fun year.

Your simply not giving McDonald enough credit. In that game Mcdonald is arguably the best big man on the floor as a Sophomore. Offensively he is much better than Schulte and I don't believe there is a big man on Holmes that is better all around then either of the two. McDoanld may not be the quickest, best defender but in all reality who does Holmes have that is going to exploit that match up and be that big of a difference maker on the block offensively? If they go all guards Holmes has no shot at stopping McDonald or Schulte on the block.

Obviously your bias to Holmes however you keep focusing on how Newcath has to match up with Holmes. What about Holmes having to match up with NewCath? Then your making assumptions based on the 2nd half of last years game. Mcdonald didn't play but the uptempo pressure bothered Newcath so that means this year it's going to be the same way? NewCath has a veteran guard in Bueter and it's not like Pangallo is some slouch.

IMO, the only advantage Holmes has is that they are deeper in the guard area. I would give the nod to Bolden over Pangallo due to Bolden's athletic ability but Pangallo is going to be one of the top PG's in the 9th for the next 2 years. Other than that match up NCC is simply better at every position considering the starting 5.

Finally, you continue to say that CCH has a better shot at beating Holmes because they play more of a similar style rather than NCC because there style isn't uptempo defensive pressure and run and go offense. If history serves me right I believe Newcath has had better luck against the Bulldogs the past couple years rather than the Colonels....but then again I may just be crazy for believing Holmes isn't the best team regardless...

I'm not as high on McDonald as you and many are. I think his low post game needs a lot of work (as most young bigs do). To me he's easy to defend in the block but teams fail to do so for some reason. He is strong though which is 90% of his inside game.

Holmes is deeper than NC without question. It's NC's biggest weakness IMO. That hasn't hurt them overall for the last few years as it seems to be an annual issue.

NC's biggest plus is their D IMO.

I have not watched Holmes yet. However, I don't picture them being very big ie not much size. Tell me about their front line.

Also, how often do teams "with size" win the 9th? And those that do win and have size seem to have a lot of overall talent ie size isn't the deciding factor.

It's all about guard play IMO.

Guard play at the high school level is vital however size plays a much bigger role than you think. Good guard play has proven to give teams a chance to win the 9th region however if you look at those teams and the success they have at rupp, it's minimal.

If you take a look at the more successful teams in the 9th region over the last decade or so, the ones that make noise at state all had talented bigs.

IMO, a team that has good enough guards along with better bigs is a better recipe at the high school level rather than teams with great guard play and minimal big man presence. Good guard play is important don't get me wrong but in the long run it can only carry you so far. Your better off, at the high school level, with guards who don't turn the ball over and make good decisions rather than scoring guards who can get you 20 a game with very limited bigs.

I'm not following, in your opinion he is easy to stop on the block but teams fail to do so for some reason? If he is so easy to stop and he has terrible post moves then why is he the best big man on arguably the best team in the 9th region? Is the 9th region that pitiful? I would be curious to see who you think is better offensively than McDonald outside of Campbell in the 9th? Let's also keep in mind McDonald is only a sophomore.

As I stated Holmes is deeper than NCC's guard play however NCC's starting 5 is better than Holmes starting 5. In high school most teams don't go deeper than 8 or 9. If they do those kids after 8 and 9 hardly have an impact in the game compared to a teams starting 5.

Like I said in a earlier thread that. The Holmes game against Covcath and Holy Cross is more important then Holmes playing Newcath or Covcath playing Newcath or even Holy Cross playing Newcath. Just because of seeding. IMO

I think McDonald is limited in the post therefore he can be stopped. As to why he isn't that's a good question. Execution of game plans? No time to do a lot of detailed scouting? The "why" is interesting but doesn't negate that it's true.

Not sure why you care who is better as it's irrelevant to the point I made and irrelevant since I also said most bigs do not have a good low post game. Lastly, the fact he is a sophomore is only academic and has nothing to do with my point.

Have you seen NCC play this year?

You said in an earlier post you have not actually seen Holmes play?

What do you base you opinions on?

I assume this is for me since , obviously, Walter has seen Holmes.

I have watched NCC.

If you're asking what I base my "who is #1 right now" post on I base it on what I've seen and the schedule played.

You cool with that?

I'm still trying to figure out your "Holmes #1" comment.

I just don't understand the logic behind saying he is limited and very stoppable? Your telling me that 11 teams haven't figured it out and yet no credit is being given to him? And your backing it up with your not sure why they haven't been able to and say because of no time for detailed scouting? Just sounds like a poor arguement with nothing to back it up.

YOUR saying most bigs don't have a good low post game. Yet im on the contrary thinking McDonald does have great low post moves because other than Campbell there isn't a better back to the basket scorer in the 9th region. I simply asked if McDonald is so limited, then who is better outside of Campbell, yet there is no mention of anyone? Therefore, you must believe the 9th has absolutely no one other than Campbell that has better than limited post moves?

Actually, stating that he is a sophmore does more than address the fact that he is academcially a sophomore. In fact it shows his superior play at such a young age. The kid was making an impact as a freshman at a school in the 9th who typically plays Juniors and Seniors and occasionally sophomores. Not to mention NCC went to the regional finals last year.

I'm simply saying my opinion is that your not giving credit when credit is due. Your entitled to your opinion and I respect that however, I'm not seeing much from your assessment and your not backing it up very well.

"Your" obviously a big fan. I am a fan as well as everyone says he's a good kid. I know his uncle and if he's like him then he's a good kid.

You think he's really good in the low post. I don't. The fact that I do not list others who are "better" doesn't negate my opinion. I can't say it any more clearer than I've ALREADY stated. Most high school bigs have a poor low post game. No moves. No footwork. Just power up through their defender with one move. If you call that a good low post game , fine. We have different definitions.

IMO he's more effective out of the post in the games I've seen. Can put the ball on the floor a bit, get fouled, and go the line where he shoots FTs well.

I still do not see how him being a sophomore has anything do with how his low post game is NOW. I hope and expect it to get better but I'm talking about NOW since this thread is about this season.

And because kids read this and I assume Drew does as well let me be very clear.

He is a good 9th region big. He has shown he can help NC win. He does a lot of things well. He takes advantage of what teams give him like all good players should. He is in the discussion of "Best Big in the 9th."

I like watching him play because he plays hard.

He can and will get better.
