I think Covcath, a smaller team, presents a bigger threat to Holmes than Newcath because of style of play. Covcath has 5 guys that are capable of playing uptempo, whereas Newcath could struggle a little in that setting because of McDonald.

However, I see them possibly subbing a little more for McDonald in the game against Holmes just because of their uptempo style, using the seniors a little more than usual and the big freshman kid they have, to give him a break. The freshman can run the floor pretty well and has good size and is long. Should be a very good game.

Newcath 1-4 is a very athletic team. Im a HUGE Nick Seibert fan, as well as Jake Schulte, and I believe Beuter playing off the ball makes Newcath very tough to defend.

 

It's tough to judge how McDonald would fare against Holmes because he didn't play against them last year but in the second half of that game, when Holmes amped up the pressure and forced the tempo, Newcath seemed to struggle.

 

The one thing Holmes has going for them in that game is their depth and the fact that it's at Holmes...Covcath will have an advantage over Holmes in their match up with the game being in Park Hills.

 

Again, this year is all about match ups. 1-4 could beat one another on any given night and you really can't count out Holy Cross, Ryle, or Dixie even though they seem to be at a level below those 4.

 

It's going to be a fun year.

Don't worry about McDonald in any kind of setting. He can run the floor better than people think, plus he can handle the ball and is an outstanding passer. If NCC has problems with CovCath and Holmes, which they may, it won't be because of him. Remember they have to match up with him also.

Completely agree. McDonald can run the floor very well for a big man and passes very well too. I just think they may sub a little more against Holmes uptempo style, not just for him, but for everyone, so that they will be fresher and have stronger legs for the 4th quarter.

Holmes style isn't going to allow them to bury the better teams. They play uptempo but the first half is generally closer because teams are able to break the press and get easier looks. As the game progresses, however, you will see those easy looks start to go away and the opposition will start to make mistakes because of being tired. Booher will be the first to tell you the same exact thing.

 

While I have Newcath and Holmes ahead of Covcath, there isn't that much of a difference in the three.

 

Covcath is deeper and better than I originally thought but I still think there are areas where Newcath and Holmes will exploit them...I'll get in to that when the games get here and a thread is opened.

 

Holmes has the deepest team with quality depth. They go 9-10 deep without a drop off at either end.

Covcath doesn't have much size but all 5 guys rebound well, which was shown in the Covcath-Clinton Co game with Ruthsatz having, I believe, 9 and 7 at the half. That will be a problem for a lot of teams going against them.
