January 2, 201313 yr Well, Georgia and LSU are pretty big time jobs. Memphis would be a lateral move. Memphis a lateral move from Southern Miss?
January 2, 201313 yr Author Memphis a lateral move from Southern Miss? They are in the same conference aren't they?
January 2, 201313 yr Memphis a lateral move from Southern Miss? I would go to Memphis a basketball school before Georgia or LSU. Those two jobs are career enders like several other SEC jobs.
January 2, 201313 yr Author I would go to Memphis a basketball school before Georgia or LSU. Those two jobs are career enders like several other SEC jobs. I predict that Tyndall will end up at a higher profile program than Memphis. Just my opinon...
January 2, 201313 yr They are in the same conference aren't they? So is Kentucky and Auburn but that doesn't make them lateral jobs.
January 2, 201313 yr I predict that Tyndall will end up at a higher profile program than Memphis. Just my opinon... I think you might be right. And of course it is all speculation until it happens. What is important to keep in mind is when moves happen. A job that might appear to be pretty bad right now, could be a great move in a few years, depending on how things progress.

A job that might appear to be pretty bad right now, could be a great move in a few years, depending on how things progress. This is very fair point. And I'm not saying that Memphis is a bad job by any means. I just think DT will have his sites on something bigger. But, never know for sure where Memphis will be in a few years.
January 2, 201313 yr The biggest thing about Memphis is the uncertainty of the conferences. But that is a team with a proud tradition and a lot of support. They are the city's main sporting attraction. Tigers' basketball is a pretty big deal.

Would be like comparing UK basketball with eg Georgia.

January 3, 201313 yr Memphis is a better job than Southern Miss. Coach Tyndall might not think so, that is his decision though. Fact is, he is connected to some very high ups in the UK Alumni/UKAA and that is not a bad thing.
January 3, 201313 yr Or, it shows that someone has talked to people involved and have a pretty good idea of what they are thinking. Since you have people telling you why it is a lateral move, tell us what makes it a lateral move?
January 3, 201313 yr The city of Memphis is loaded with talent. Hattiesburg can't say the same. That in and of itself makes already gives the Memphis job a much better national outlook. Southern Miss has two conference championships and three NCAA tournament appearances (0-3). Memphis has 24 NCAA tournament appearances and 15 conference championships.
January 3, 201313 yr Author Since you have people telling you why it is a lateral move, tell us what makes it a lateral move? I don't think it's a lateral move. Memphis would be a better job but I just think he has his sites set a little higher. After reading my initial post, I feel I could've done a better job explaining what I was trying to say. I feel like we'll see Tyndall in a BCS conference someday and my first thought would be in the SEC.
