Obviously powell has a quality secondbaseman that can help out at that position, but as for replacing everyone i feel like the only ones that will be tough to replace are there CF that could hit, and banjo on the mound. As for behind the plate they have a new catcher that is better defensively IMO than last years catcher. He can also hit a bit. RF will not be hard to replace, they have a boatload of outfielders which will also help replace their CF.

Powell will have several holes to fill this year, know doubt about it. Banjo on the mound, Billings behind the plate, the CF is what sticks out in my mind, but I am sure they lost more than those 3. First off no he shouldnt go ahead and sign to the D1 school of his choice first off cause he is not good enough and wont be and niether was the catcher from last year so i dont know where that off the wall comment came from. But just because he is an underclassman doesnt mean he cant be or wasnt better. The only thing keeping him out of the lineup was seniority and his hitting. Ill admit last years catcher could outhit him but behind the plate this years catcher is better. As far as throwing out runners go last years catcher may have thrown out about one or two and when your pitcher is afraid to throw an 0-2 curve in the dirt then you know you have problems behind the plate. Although that particular catcher was much improved from his junior to senior year he still is just not the natural defensive catcher that powell has this year. So i disagree that the biggest hole that they have to fill is behind the plate. Now at the plate hitting is a different story they will have troubles but they still have Muncie and King, and hopefully a couple of the young guys can step up and help them out. But anyways im just respectfully disagreeing with you. And by the way only 2 players left out of last years 5 still playing college ball. Maynard at Lindsey Wilson and Billings at Pikeville, what happened to Banjo remains a mystery to me and Shoemaker transferred to Morehead and Tipton never went. :thumb:

Powell lost A LOT last year, all around. Owsley is still young, with the exception of Smith. But with a young new coach could possibly suprise some people this year. Still think it will be a couple of years to build the program back up.

 

 

They be young but alot of them have the fundamentals and are getting better all the time.

I am hearing a lot about Owsley's new coach and how much he can improve this Owsley team. What is their schedule like? Do they have any scrimmages soon?

The Owls have a scrimmage game on the 15th of March with OBI (not sure if it is home or away), and they open with Buckhorn on the 28th at Buckhorn.

I look forward to seeing Owsley play. The Bowliing kid can flat out play and if Smith can get the rust off he will be a good one as well.

Who exactly do you think the catcher is going to be this year? I know that only 2 of the 5 are still playing but 4 of the 5 could have played. And filling the hole behind the plate isn't just my opinion. You might want to talk with the coaching staff and other folks around the program. That is one of their problems and the other will be putting runs on the board. You evidently don't know much of the stats from last year either when you refer to throwing out runners and you surely don't know anything about pitchers afraid to throw 0-2 curve balls. It wasn't their decision. All pitches were called by the coaching staff. I am sure Powell will have a young man step up and do a good job but to say that there was a kid on the team last year that was a better catcher than the one that left is crazy and if you use hitting as the reason he played then you must of forgot about the dh and Coach Dean would have played anyone ahead of that young man if they could have done the job. I am sure you feel the way you feel but I think you are in the minority. JMO Coach Varney has his hands full but he is just the man to stay on the course Powell has been on for 25 years and that is winning districts and always competing for a regional title.

I really think that Lee is on top in this district. Estill is normally pretty solid but i am not sure of their team this year.

 

As far as Owsley goes....i have to see it to believe it

I am going to give Daniel Neely some love. This kid will show some people this season that he can play outside of the gym. He will be a big reason why Owsley Co. is a better baseball team this season, and will contend for the 56th!!!

I am not saying Lee is not the best team in the district, but Owsley will be much improved Big Cat 44 Lee is always good. Owsley has the best talent right now that they have had for years. I just hope they can put the talent to use.
