December 18, 201213 yr I agree - historically UC has never been able to draw consistent crowds from year to year, so why in the world would they think they can do it now? I understand Tommy T bringing some excitement, but how long does anyone expect him to be at UC? Also - is a 40K seat stadium really that more attractive to a conference, than a 30K seat stadium? Personally I do not see it. I would think that a jump to 70 or 80K seats is what would be needed to do that. Personally, I like Nippert the way it is. If the AD thought he had a chance at the B10 or SEC, I think they'd be talking a reno to 80K seats. None of us believe those 2 conferences are interested. 45K sounds about right for the ACC or Conf USA. I don't see UC getting too excited for Wake or Duke- maybe a 45K sellout for Miami, FSU or Va Tech (if they dont jump to the SEC). Can't wait to hear how they'll pay for it.
December 18, 201213 yr Author Have been told there is a nice chunk of it already raised, but not sure the exact number. Guessing we will find that out today... Talked to someone today, well connected with the athletic department that said the majority of it is being paid for with grants while the rest is being privately funded. Does that sound about right?

TCU is in the Big12 with a 40k seat stadium and Baylor only seats around 50k. They are jumping to the number they are for a reason. It has pretty much been laid out for them what they need to do in order to get in to a different conference.
December 18, 201213 yr Number of seats isn't much of a factor. The problem is that Nippert has no luxury or club type seating to generate larger chunks of revenue. The bulk of this project will be addressing that issue... And there you have it folks ... it isn't about the # of seats, it is about the suites. Looks good to me!

December 18, 201213 yr If you believe Nippert could be expanded to 80K I'd like some of what you're drinking... It would be a mile in the sky!
December 18, 201213 yr Objective observation.... When you can't sell out 30k, why add 10k more? Worked here.
December 18, 201213 yr If you believe Nippert could be expanded to 80K I'd like some of what you're drinking... Getting to 80K seats would be doable at UC. The real question is why would they bother.
