Covington Latin 53 Bellevue 42

Featured Replies

In a game that was mostly close with Bellevue carrying a small lead throughout , Latin pulled away late getting numerous important defensive boards and converting them into points from the field and from the line. I do not have any stats on this game, but number 4 for the Tigers played a big factor connecting on numerous 3's keeping things close, and Mitchell Blewett from Latin undoubtedly got his usual double-double with over 20 points and more than 10 boards. He even connected on two 3's of his own. He got good support from football body Patrick Clancy who probably finished in the 12 point range and their point guard Dorian Clark probably had about 10 or so and a few here and there from other contributors to round out the final tally. It was exciting to see Latin have success. They get their chance at two victories in a row when they face Dayton on Friday night. Go Trojans !!!

Congrats to Cov Latin!

Nice to see the "fish-eating" brethren winning. :thumb:

Blewett had 33 and #4 for bellevue (Hornback) had 18pts, I think he had five 3's

I think the last time Bellevue lost to Latin was 1985 wow.

Bellevue was flat all night, no fire.

Congrats and Continued Success to the Trojans!!!

Riherds says Gene Morrison is (still) the head coach of the Trojans - Has to be the dean of Northern Kentucky Coaches.

And Latin School appears to have their once a decade talent this year.

I for one just love it when this type of anomaly happens with Covington Latin basketball of having an exceptional talent considering the age obstacles they always face, and the nature of their small school status not known for athletic prowess. Mitchell Blewett's name can now be added to the short list of amazing Latin talents that include Jeff Stowers, Brian O'Connor, and David Justice. My personal interest in all of this began when I was a child and my first unusual exposure to high school basketball was by tagging along to numerous Latin games with my neighbors whose son played for them. From the get-go I learned early on to root for the underdog, and it pleases me to no end when I see them have some success. I certainly keep close attention to 9th Region basketball with high hopes that lead to the Kentucky Sweet 16, but always dig it when these type of rare footnoted scenarios happen from time to time. It just adds to the pleasure of following the game, and is to me just downright interesting. I'm guessing to anyone reading this that this much is obvious. I have to admit that I left Bellevue's gym last night with a big goofy smile on my face. Their victory just made my night.

Well put B-Ball!

It is crazy that Thomas More's best basketball player ever (O'Conner) and one of the best ever at NKU (Stowers) played at Latin School. Then you have Justice who is probably the most accompished pro baseball player ever out of a N. Ky. high school. All from a school with limited athletics and kids graduating at 16. Pretty wild.

Mainly true but Justice was older than 16 when he graduated.

I checked his wiki page. Born April 14, 1966. Graduated from Latin School in 1982 at 16. If that is right, he actually had just turned 16 the month before he graduated.
