When did UK hire a coach we weren't excited about, everyone thought Bill Curry was the next coming. It's nice to feel good but remember these coaches get to play with UK players, not Fla St or Tx Tech kids, huge difference.

 

Plus everyone was also excited over Billy G and how he signed recruits so fast.

I really want to be optimistic but a lifetime of being a UK fan has pretty much beat the optimism out of me.

 

We all want to be competitive in the SEC, and to even approach that UK must make a committment to better recruiting. The $$ spent on recruiting compared to our fellow conference members is laughable. Until that changes, I don't anticipate UK moving up in the SEC rankings any time soon.

 

Whoever we hired, it will take a couple of really improved recruiting classes before we see any dramatic changes in results, IMO. I would be comfortable giving this staff a 4 or 5 year window before we assess the state of the program. I question whether Stoops and Co. will be here that long.

According to early reports, it was Stoops who contacted UK. He reportedly came in with a plan and laid it out for the UK brass as to what he wanted to do to build the UK program into an SEC contender.

 

I would have loved to have been in that room, but realistically I would just like to see an outline of that plan.

^^ You all sound like old grumps. If you aren't going to be excited now as a fan, when are you going to be? You can be optimistic and realistic at the same time.

 

They are throwing money at assistant coaches which I think it huge. The fan base is alright behind these guys and I don't think anyone expects an overnight change. I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do.

I am curious if we hear that 2014 QB DG Gillins of FL now considers UK. He committed to TexTech.

 

Kentucky offered him this morning...

I know everybody is jacked up about the style of offense that UK will be running; The Air Raid returns, but it's going to boil down to two things and two things only.

 

1) Defense

2) How well will they run the ball?

 

Some will disagree, and that is totally fine, but before Max Smith went out, Kentucky's offense really wasn't all that bad this year with the amount of youth that they had (the same can be said defensively, as well, in terms of youth that is. I never liked whats his name DC from the word 'go'.) If you remember the Louisville game correctly, and I know most of you do, UK was right there. Offense isn't what got UK beat (well, inopportune turnovers did inside UL's 20 or round a bouts), but their defense did.

 

Even the WKU game, UK put up 31 points (24 in regulation), but Alabama just put up 35 on them, so take that for what it's worth.

 

I love the Air Raid and Tony Franklin stuff if people run the ball, and Lord knows there are those out there that do, Louisiana Tech (granted, they were also in the WAC...a lot of NFL teams going to that conference to draft defensive guys, let me tell you) this year being one of them, but on the flip side of that, their defense is/was horrid (119th to be exact). I just don't see the two ever coming together (Pass first, uptempo offense with a solid defense). Can anybody name me a team in the SEC team going bowling that fits all 4 of the criteria below?

 

1) No Huddle/Up Tempo- Go Fast

2) Pass First

3) Bottom half in rushing across the country

4) Plays great defense

 

 

If anybody out there can find an SEC team that fits in all four of those categories, please let me know. Because those 4 categories above are what you are likely to see (or at least, that's what's being sold).

Granted, I will say love what WKU and Louisville have been and are continuing to do above UK, but nonetheless, I'd love to see the pendulem swing to football across this state.

Kentucky has talked Trinity's Jason Hatcher to come take official visit. Jason is a 4* USC commitment. Kentucky also got James Quick to come take an official visit to Kentucky this weekend and to a basketball game against Lipscomb. Be nice if we could get both of these guys but I don't think Hatcher will change his mind

You set guidelines that you know nobody can argue... congrats? You aren't a fan of the Neal Brown hire, but everyone... EVERYONE else is, including many recruits. Like Stoops said, his offense puts defenses in tough situations and is tough to prepare for. I'm sure there will have to be adjustments to it, being that the SEC plays much more defense than the Big 12, but coaches are paid to be able to make such adjustments.

 

Better question, who do you think UK should have hired as OC?

The only two teams that I've somewhat ever gotten really emotionally attatched to (as far as, if they lose, I actually get pissed at times) just so happen to be the two teams playing for National Championship this year.

 

I don't get overly attatched. Take WKU for example, I think it's pretty clear that they get my #1 vote. But, guess what, if Petrino leaves after next year (which could very likely happen)....I'll tell you how much it will bother me and effect me from going to games like I have the past few years (yes, even their D1 transition years where they went O-fer), and thats NONE.
