I really think NCC can name the score in this one.

From what I have seen of NCC this year (and also historically), they will run on you until they know you can at least minimally contain it. If they are getting big chunks of yardage and lots of first downs, they might end up having only 5 passes the whole game. That doesn't mean, however, that they don't a good passing attack. This year they have a very good one. In later games in the season, they changed things up by passing to set up the run. Very good balance from the Breds this year. Any opponent has to stay close for 3 quarters in a low scoring defensive game to have a chance. A high scoring affair is not a good thing for Caldwell, because NCC's defense gets better as the offense racks up the points. Caldwell has to somehow stem the tide of the traditional first half NCC explosion of points. Force some turnovers, try to get some favorable field position, play extremely well defensively, pray for slick field conditions. (Note: these are objective comments from someone who is NOT an NCC follower).

Nkypete's assessment sounds about right. NCC for years think of the running game, Michael Vicars to Mark Kelly with Rob Kues, to Chris Kelly with Brady Hightchew, to Dylan Hayes, and it seems next in like will be the freshman Jacob Smith. It's just always the way it is, and Dan Wagner always has the defense ready to play. I for one was surprised he hasn't gotten a head coaching job yet, he's a phenomenal coach. But they're going to beat you running, and always have a solid QB, Sam Diehl, Jared Harris, Rob Kues, Brady Hightchew, and now Josh Cain. Josh is more like Diehl or Harris though because he's not really that much of a running QB, but he's shown he's improving every week, and is a player NCC can rely on. But yeah, same thing almost every year for NCC, tough QB, good RB, very tough defense. Though I believe this NCC team is not as strong as the 2010 or 2011, I think it's going to take a really good game from Caldwell County to win. As far as Mayfield goes, let's not get in that mess again, we beat you guys in 2005, by a pretty significant margin, and in 2010 where everyone was comparing non-stop, I feel like we would have won as well. Don't forget, the 2010 NCC team was a few turnovers away from taking Ryle to the wire, a Ryle team that beat Highlands, and gave Trinity one of their better games.

It's not TPs fault that Mayfield is a little better than NCC..He just calls it like he sees it..

I might add that Caldwell County should probably try to emulate the gameplan that Hazard had last year when they beat Mayfield in the 1A state final.:popcorn:

I have said it before and will say it again Josh Cain is the one who makes this offense go. He is deadly accurate and is a very underrated runner. The deep out and hitches he throws are absolutely like stealing. You think you have them shut down and they come up with a 15 yard out for a first down. I think they are one of the few high school teams that can march down the field throwing 7 to 15 yards outs and hitches. Hayes is a very good player but Cain is the one I would worry about the most.

I'm sure Caldwell would benefit from a few key injuries, too.

Toothpick, why is it Mayfield folk can't go one thread without somehow slipping in something about them being better than NCC? It doesn't even cross my mind when I was looking at the BW/Mayfield thread last week. We can talk about what would happen if the two teams played all day but fact is no one can truly say cuz they don't play. I just know the last time they faced off was in the state championship and it was embarrassing! Mayfield's QB then couldn't QB for NCC's middle school team. I'm sure going into that game your fan base thought you had a shot. Watched the game film of Caldwell/mayfield and mayfield looked very good, I don't care who would win a Mayfield/NCC cuz they don't play this week. I love the fact that Caldwell is so confident, it makes it fun. Sarge, my prediction is coming.

When I look at Caldwell County, the first thing that stands out to me is the QB. He's fun to watch, very athletic with a big arm. RB's look quick to me, the games I watched seemed like they cut through crowds well. The line looks small. The D looks small but pretty quick, #54 looks impressive. How do I see them matching up with NCC? The QB may give NCC problems when he gets outside the pocket because can give himself more time and make big plays down field. NCC IMO doesn't get to the scrambling QB as fast as they have in past years, that's not a knock on the front four of NCC because with their size and play against the run will likely give CC fits. I look for DE Tyler (Timmy) Lyons to have a big day. Also, CC QB is not afraid to throw into traffic which shows he has confidence in what he's doing but their were some balls up for grabs I saw that you can't afford in a title game. The equalizer in this game is going to be the NCC running game. CC doesn't look like a great tackling team and that in my mind will be the difference. A high scoring game with CC making big plays established by the pass is the way this game can stay close. I don't see an answer for the NCC offense. Some on here have talked about Cain's play as being what makes this offense go and I just don't see it that way. I think this offense is anchored Dylan Hayes and the offensive line. Cain is very good QB and he does hit the open WRs but the decision making can get him in trouble, but he's clutch and that's a great comfort for NCC faithful. 3 passes that I remember last Friday were big time throws. CC's punt formation is fun to watch and they like to throw a little out of it which may help keep the NCC return game in check. As far as everyone talking about how young CC is and how they will be in this game for the next couple years, who cares, this game is Saturday, that's all they should be worried about and I'm sure it is. With all that being said I say it's a 3+TD game. 35.........maybe 42 to 14 NCC but could be closer if CC QB makes some plays. No disrespect to CC just my opinion, looking forward to Saturday.
