9th Region Titles in Basketball?

 

Come on Q, it was 2000-2001 season that HHS last won the 9th Region! CovCath won the Region in 2004 and went to the semi-finals of the Sweet Sixteen that year and again won the 9th Region in 2006!

 

I would think a fair comparison would be Baseball, as neither HHS or CovCath has won a State Basketball Title but CovCath has won a Baseball title!

 

Heck HHS hasn't even won a Regional Baseball Title since 1997, which BTW was the last year in which HHS beat CovCath in Baseball and those in Ft. Thomas think HHS has a huge advantage in Football over CovCath and look at 2006 as ancient history.

 

I mean if the fans in Ft. Thomas think 2006 was a long time ago, what do they say about 1997!

 

Lets face it Q, as you said, HHS is a Football school first, second and always and the other sports are just given second class status by the Ft. Thomas fans! Note I said fans and not the AD!

 

The CovCath fans takes pride in the fact that our kids compete competitively in all sports not only locally but state wide!

 

To be fair , no team in NKY has consistently underachieved like CCH baseball since 2005.

Well now that you mention it, there is this rumor going around that SK has a kid who is a stud in the sport but he will soon be transferring over to HHS to better improve his chances to get a Frisbee scholarship to college and to improve on his academics!

 

CovCath had to stop playing due to the neighbors complaining about the disk landing in their yards on errant throws but with the new zoning in Park Hills CovCath hopes to return to the sport next year!

How many starters is CovCath going to be replacing next season? What's the O-line going to look like?

QB, RB, a couple of WR's & TE on offense.

2 DL, 2 LB & a couple DB's.

 

O-line should be beefier, really replacing G's, but underclassmen got plenty of time there this year.

D-line will be fine, lots of underclassmen rotated in this year, lose some size with Hemmer.

 

Burchell is back to anchor LB's, with some decent underclassmen coming up,

same for DB's.

 

Bir is the major loss, I don't see a real drop-off anywhere else, quite possibly some upgrades depending on the off season work put in.

I think they will have more run packages in by default with the personnel they have coming back. With Luke Bir (Sr) Sam Dressman (Sr) and Adam Wagner (Jr) in the backfield- all of whom bring different talents to the run game- and a solid group of returning O-linemen, they should be fine. Play action should work as a result. Wagner did very well passing the ball at the JV level.

What about the McGinnis kid? I have a hard time believing CCH will be able to keep this kid out of the backfield next year. Doesn't he play a little QB as well. I could see a little Wildcat formation for this young man. I have only watched him play once and that's all I needed to see to believe this kid will be a gamer for the Colonels the next couple of years. Another kid that makes me nervous against my Birds.
