Johnson Central 62 Paintsville 58

Featured Replies

I think Paintsville has pretty much vested all their effort into this group of sophmores. They don't play in a middle school conference nor do they have a freshmen schedule. I guess it's a numbers thing. IMO if Coach Runyon is planning on riding out with this group he should give his successor a year with them... If not the next guy will be in trouble. Having success in your first year will get you established. Don't know anything about JC's JV/freshmen situation. I do know they had a nice middle school team last year.

Paintsville has a Freshman team, but they have only played three games due to cancellations and some freshman who play JV. They have wins over Pikeville and Magoffin County and a loss to Sheldon Clark!

Just becasue their not in a conference in middle school doesn't mean anything. They still play Inez, Magoffin County, Warfield, Blaine, Mullins, Virgie, Dorton, and others.

Well sounds like i missed a heck of a game. When is the rematch is and where it will be at?

It was a good hard fought game by two solid teams which i dont think have reach their full potential as of yet. Good game by Rice, he has turned into a very solid post player, and Fannin played very well and kept moving without the ball which UK could take notes from. My only complaint about the game all the offical timeouts to wipe up the floor. Hint to Paintsville, turn a air conditioner on and you wont have as much of this problem. Great game by two great teams and cant wait for the rematch at JC.

Hat's off to your Eagles Black Wire, Rice was huge in this one. Should be an interesting re-match. The Music kid is a heck of an athlete, how many guards does this Johnson Central team have. Is their a big-man in the works? Fannin and Rice are seniors I think. Is it true that some of the freshman quit the team to work on wrestling/footbal?

When do they play again? I'm know it's at Johnson Central and I can't wait to see how it turns out. It should be even better than this last game.

How are Paintsville and Central's J.V. and Freshmen teams doing this year? Is Paintsville able to have a J.V. team with so many Soph's playing up and the school so small?

Paintsville's Frosh seem to be doing well....If they could get their shooting percentage up and cut down turnovers they would beat a lot of teams easily. They have noone over 6'2" but handled Pikeville's 6'8" kid easily....and he gave Paintsville's Varsity fits at times! But they are having fun, even with teams cancelling on them, they have not played in two weeks, but Coach Vanhoose is trying to let them scrimage more and at least enjoy their practices!!

That's good to here. Pikeville has a Freshman 6'8! :scared: That's a big Freshman especially for a mountain team!

Sounds like Starns did a great job! He seems to be a very nice guy to boot.

Yeah! Hope he doesn't win the District like Coach Trimble (Nice Guy) did. Or he may get the BOOT! LOL!! Good Luck at LC Coach Trimble at LC.

You're the only one who has came close to my thoughts on the game. Johnson County has a lot to be proud of at both schools. Here you have two teams, who are heated rivals and haven't met their full potential this season. Although heated rivals, I was a witness to one of the cleanest games in history. Both teams fought hard, and had a shot at the game late in the fourth. JC hit free throws down the stretch to put this one away. The refs were pretty much non existent all night, they let the kids play. Although they let the kids play, the kids played tough but not too aggressive. I think in the 4th both teams combined had 6 or 7 fouls. I have to commend Coach Starnes on the job he did coaching. I know someone mentioned earlier that he coached to win, I think they were referring to how he called every offensive play and a lot of Johnson Central's points came off of running these plays. Rice had a great game and exploited Paintsville's weaknesses. Not only do I have to compliment the players, coaches and refs but also the fans. The fans from both schools kept it clean and weren't chanting anything derogatory about players or teams. Not only do both of these schools excell in their districts in all sports but they also have a lot to be proud in the academic department. Both score high on testing and have great teachers. There's just a lot to be proud of in Johnson County. Congrats to Johnson Central on their win. Tigers keep your heads up, you played hard and I hope you continue to do so.

People would not keep the doors shut on both ends of the floor. That is what caused all the moisture.

Exactly. It would get really hot in the gym if they would keep the doors shut, but it would be safer for the players and eliminate all of the delays in the game that are needed to dry the court. Paintsville has more than its fair share of lawyers in the stands. One of them should explain the potential liability of contributing to a serious injury by opening those doors. They should be designated emergency exits during games.

Fantastic post !!

Also: Mike Walker, Wendell Wallen, and Todd Duff are all three top officials in the 15th region. It's good to see such a premier game get the best officials.

Your post are usually full of knowledge and great insight, but this is the craziest statement I've ever read on BGP period. Duff and Walker should be officiating YMCA games.
