Didn't say it was the private schools fault. They are playing by the established rules. The rules create an advantage public schools do not have, therefore, if they have this advantage why is to so impressive to do what they should be doing? Regradless of who is responsible for the rule Trinity can grab pretty much whomever they want and are not bound by any geographical location. They can offer a premier education and facilities to attract good players. It is a small college set up. Most public schools cant offer this. Trinity is not doing anything wrong they do not make the rules I am just saying a public school like Scott County, Boyle, Central, etc impress much more.

Jefferson County is open enrollment. I would venture that Central being very good, is causing as much problem for 6A as any other reason...those kids used to fill Ballard, Eastern, and Male's halls......now they stay downtown. Why don't we dominate every other sport? We have all the advantages, kids, etc......I have never seen such crybaby attitudes in all my life. Everyone gets in the playoffs now....enjoy that.

Two things.....1 - public school coaches are all over the CSAA games, 2 - none of them are allowed to talk about the benefits of athletics at their schools? Does it happen? Maybe, but not when I was involved with Trinity.

How many Catholic Students from FT Thomas and Southgate attend the Ft Thomas public school system after elementary school , and eventually play at Highlands . Not that there is anything wrong with that .

Legit yes. Following the rules and doing it the right way yes. Fair no. Private schools have advantages public schools don't that is just fact.

Good point. One of many reasons privates should have their own playoff or something along those lines.

So coaches from Catholic schools can come into public middle schools and give presentations on the benefits of their program? If not that is what the above indicates.

 

I don't know what this restrictive mentality that many public schools have is about. Shouldn't you want to promote your school and its benefits to all? I am not just talking athletically, I am talking about things like quick recall, history club, FCA, debate team and so on. You should want people to want to attend your school as opposed to having no choice. I frankly am of the mindset that all school districts should have open borders to facilitate individual choice. We are an individualistic society and I think we should promote that. If we have to compete with each other we get better.

 

In Louisville the Catholic schools have always had to compete just to keep our own students. The vast majority of kids that go to Catholic grade schools in Louisville end up with the JCPS for high school. A Catholic school education is not cheap no matter how good an athlete you are and the only thing that defrays the cost at our schools are scores on the placement exam and financial need. Ever heard of Michael Bush? The reason he wasn't a Shamrock was because enough financial aid wasn't available. That's right, quite possibly one of the greatest athletes in Kentucky history was unable to attend Trinity for financial reasons.

 

We have facilities, but we have had to work for them. We had to solicit donations to make the campus what it is now. When I was there (97-01) we had a dilapidated stadium, a weight room that was as likely to give you tetanus as it would a good workout, a wrestling room that made most people sick when they smelled it and most of the campus had no air conditioning. We have improved our facilities in recent years but it is insulting to say we have always had state of the art facilities. In fact if we could have a school building like John Hardin's I would be stoked.

 

Point being none of what Trinity has was handed to us. We built what we had from the ground up. I resent the idea of being treated differently because of our community's commitment to improving ourselves.

They cannot attract kids from outside that boundary legally, whereas, private schools are not bound by the same restriction. Their pool to choose from is more expansive making them almost untouchable. The rules are the rules they aren't breaking them but it creates an unfair advantage Imo. It is like Oak Hill Academy the famed High School basketball team who perennially rank in the top 5 nationally. They should be ranked high every year they get the best kids from all over the country. No public school in VA can touch them. They have an unfair but legal advantage.

The "rules" TRENCHMASTER is complaining about are not KHSAA rules at all. If your school district does not allow students from outside their area, that is a self-imposed restriction. If you want to change things, then you can always petition your school district to allow open enrollment.

The Oldham County School system has imposed drug testing on every student who participates in extra curricular activities. In the years that they have done this it is quite likely to have cost them some athletes. That is a self-imposed limitation (just like a resides district). Do they have any right to complain if they lose to other schools that haven't chosen to set that same self-imposed restriction on themselves?

Trinity does have some advantages. 99% of them they have earned. As an all boys school they do not have the restriction of Title IX. I'm not saying this is why they are at the level they are at but it isn't a hurdle they have to deal with. The other advantage is number of coaches. They have more on their freshman staff than many schools have on their whole HS staff. That helps with the development of players. Many schools period do not have the resources to put together and pay a staff that size.
