Junior QB Devin Hayes threw an interception on the first play from scrimmage, and LexCath scored two plays later. After that, the Purples blitzed the Knights 35-14 the rest of the way. The BGHS defense, which returned only one starter from last year, collected eight sacks and intercepted three passes in the game.

 

That first qtr score ended a 21 consecutive quarter streak where the Purples did not allow a TD and only allowed one FG (to Owensboro).

 

Hayes set a new BGHS record with 29 TD passes in one season, and AP All State (as a soph last year) WR Nacarius Fant tied the record for TD receptions in one season set by current South Carolina WR D.L. Moore in 2007 with his 13th of the season. Senior S Allen Gonsalves was credited with four of the BGHS sacks tonight.

 

LexCath is a very talented team and worthy of the respect they get. However, they shot themselves in the foot with some very untimely penalties in key situations. BGHS needed an opponent of their caliber to make sure that they are in the right frame of mind to make a hard run at a second consecutive 5A title. They will start that trek next week hosting Apollo in the first round of the 5A Region One Playoffs.

Junior RB Blue Tisdale led the Purples' ground attack and also showed that Fant isn't the only player with the Purples who can return a kick a long way by returning the kickoff after the first LexCath score past midfield.

The key play was the interception return by the Purples. Knights had a good drive going but an intereception returned for a TD took the game from a possible tie to a 2 TD spread. This was Reece Ryans first serious test since taking for injured Kyle Bolin. He was hampered by lots of penalties by the offensive line. Personal fouls, holds, false starts. Very sloppy play. And, in general, LexCath offense has yet to find its stride this year.

 

Defensively, Anthony Kersey set the tone with the interception on the first play from scrimmage. Michael Vogalsang was also in a lot of tackles.

Isn't Bolin out? If so, pretty decent effort by the Knights, it sounds like.

Bolin is out, but their sophmore QB is going to be a special player. Big arm and very athletic.

Inconsistency on offense. Defense can be ran on.

 

Can be explosive on offense. Can put up points in bunches really fast.

He sure is. His td catch against Boyle right before the half was one of the best I have seen in person from a high school player. Plus he got a concussion on the play and still held onto the ball. Very impressed by this kid.
