kinglouie Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Man - I hate where it seems youth sports are headed....... And you thought the NFL replacement refs had it tough. A Florida referee who officiated in a game over the weekend between two top-ranked youth football teams in Miami was allegedly knocked to the ground by an assistant coach. According to police, referee Andrew Keigans called a penalty on the West Park Saints after someone in the stands made a derogatory remark. Assistant coach Dion Robinson is caught on film entering the field of play to dispute the call and striking Keigans, as the game is ended by the head referee. Robinson was arrested for assault on Monday Video of incident: Referee of youth football allegedly hit by a coach
Omega Man Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Crazy. I do like the fact there were several folks on the green team that tried to bring their folks back. Only bright spot on a very sad video.
MJAlltheWay24 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 To bad the guy in maroon couldn't wrap up his buddy before he swung... Nevermind that. Just watched it again and he had him stopped. Guy is an idiot.
RomanEmpire Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 What a thug. Assaulting a sports official should be a felony with 5-10 years of hard time. Ridiculous.
Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Interesting little detail I found when I Googled the ref's name: 04/30/2004 Andrew Keigans 05/26/2004 Andrew Keigans 07/23/2004 Andrew Keigans
Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Read on another page where Dion Robinson, the 43 year old assistant coach who struck the ref, has quite a criminal record, going back 25 years and involving 20 prior arrests.
SportsGuy41017 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 It's ALL about the coach here! EMBARASSING! I can understand being very upset at a call in the stands or sidelines, but we seem coaches and parents on video too many times go too far! When are we going to say enough is enough? Until the law changes to where coaches and parents who act like this coach will 1) face serious jail time with no time off, you will have time and you will do every last minute of that time. 2) Any coach or parent who acts like this coach will be barred from not only coaching, but not being allowed to even attend a youth sporting event, including HS games, this includes ALL youth events! 3) If you are a coach and one of the other coaches on your team does something like this, you must give a real attempt to restrain the coach, if not, you are gone from coaching as well. And after reading CWB's post, your past criminal record will be looked at before you can be involved with a team. Not sure what his arrests were for, but I am sure out of 20 arrests something in there should have prevented him from being involved with a youth team. (I looked up his name and his record includes aggravated assault, assault with a firearm, and multiple arrests for cocaine distribution.) PLEASE, tell me again why he was allowed to even be near these kids let alone coach? From what I can tell, at least 4 or 5 of the coaches on the green team should be finished, the only person who gave a real attempt to stop this was the guy in the maroon.
TAC Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Interesting little detail I found when I Googled the ref's name: 04/30/2004 Andrew Keigans 05/26/2004 Andrew Keigans 07/23/2004 Andrew Keigans Pretty much the same when you google any ref!

It looks like the ref. If it is, how in the world is he able to be a ref if it was him and if he was convicted?
20/20Hindsight Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Thought this thread was going to be about the NKYFL/NFF fiasco. Talk about out of control...
sports fan Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 The two things I take from this video are that the ref needs to quit frequenting the all-u-can-eat pizza buffets, and the oft-arrested sucker punching coach needs a belt or he will never outrun the next cop.
