October 16, 201213 yr VOR. Please take note!!! It's not just Reds fans. But to respond to your post, of course it's not just Reds fans!
October 16, 201213 yr I'm a bit concerned about the pitching. With two straight nights of only 4 innings from the starters the bullpen could be getting tired.
October 16, 201213 yr Thoughts on the Holliday slide. Dirty. When you start your slide on/beyond the base, dirty.
October 16, 201213 yr How is the slide any different from a runner sliding 2-3 foot outside of the bag? The intent is still the same.
October 16, 201213 yr How is the slide any different from a runner sliding 2-3 foot outside of the bag? The intent is still the same. It's different in execution. In your example the runner whips his leg into a defender is usually airborne. In last night's play Holiday brought all of his weight down upon a planted leg.
October 16, 201213 yr How is the slide any different from a runner sliding 2-3 foot outside of the bag? The intent is still the same. For me, it's when the runner initiates his slide. If the runner starts his slide prior to reaching the base, I'm fine with it. When the runner doesn't start his slide until he is on top of the base (or beyond), then that's when it becomes dirty IMO.
October 16, 201213 yr It was closer to a flying cross body than it was a slide. His right arm hit him waist high. Plus, he darn near leaped over the base. If Scutaro is seriously hurt someone will go head hunting, not just lower back.
October 16, 201213 yr Thoughts on the Holliday slide. Dirty play. Over the past few years, I've seen Holliday make a few bad slides into 2nd. Hopefully this doesn't affect Scutaro in the series. Luckily, there hasn't been a collision with Holliday at the plate. He is big as it is, but when he gets a head of steam, guy is a runaway fridge. It would be very ugly.
October 16, 201213 yr FWIW, I didn't like it either. My question was more for conversation. I also think sliding only to take someone out is dirty.

If you slide, regardless of where you slide, you give the infielder a chance to avoid contact. There was no way for Scutaro to avoid contact.
