October 15, 201213 yr It's funny, the number 5 team in the country gets beat by 5 touchdowns and there is 7 post in that thread. This thread now has 46. I am a ND fan, but a realistic one, if I felt he scored I would say so. It appears his elbow touches before extending the ball to me. I had a friend at the game and text him when the play occurred. I said it looked like he got in. He disagreed, which I expected. Watching the replay provided here, the elbow hits in my opinion. I also agree his forward progress was stopped long enough to stop the play. Stanford can not complain about the refs, they are from their conference. I am sure the ND haters will disagree. Don't disagree just because you don't like the school. I don't think ND has the offense to play with the big boys from the SEC, but for now they are up there. The Oklahoma game will be tough and ND better bring the offense with them to stay in that game. I hope they don't look ahead and concentrate on BYU for next week. Go Irish!

October 15, 201213 yr I agree with the earlier post that said had it been ruled a TD, Notre Dame would have a more than a legit gripe about the forward progress being stopped, which it clearly was. Now on the play before (or maybe it was on 2nd down), that should have been reviewed and looked at closer than the 4th down play. The 4th down play I never thought to be in doubt.

We saw the samething happen in the Bengals game yesterday, and them deciding his forward progress was stopped before he fumbled even though he was still trying to get forward and started to lean the ball out and then lost it. Even though the whistle had not blown, they had already viewed his forward progress as being stopped.

October 16, 201213 yr Oklahoma will be THE test for the ND defense this year. USC will be talented, but they play at a slower pace than OK. If they can keep the Sooners below 24, I'll take it as a win for the D. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that ND's offense can score 25 on them. Time for BK to stop the Golson experiment and just commit to Reese for the rest of the year.

Golson is his man.

Feet moving does not mean a guy still has forward progress going. They had him stopped and not moving forward at all for a couple of seconds, he only started to finally move forward once Notre Dame guys started to let go to celebrate. The ref started running in because he was viewing his forward progress as stopped. Same thing as we seen in the Bengals game, its not an uncommon thing to see at all. Refs viewing forward progess as stopped before they blow the whistle. Then guys spin out of it, or a guy fumbles and then refs all of a sudden blows whistles saying no no no his forward progress was stopped. This is not a new thing and very common. If you want to say there is a chance it could have been called a touchdown that is fine, but it was not even close to to being a for sure thing as you said. His forward progress had stopped.
