The democratic party has done more to harm those in poverty than to help, regardless of race. They have created a generation that believes they are entitled to the fruits of another mans labor. All Americans should pay their share, and yes, I believe the rich should pay a greater share because they are capitalizing on a greater benefit, but the demise of our country will be too many people on the government dole. Again, I don't see this as a race issue, but a growing poverty class will eventually create a welfare burden that can't be absorbed by those paying taxes. I can't support the Dem Party because all I hear is spend. Our government wastes an exorbitant amount of money - both parties are guilty, thus, voters using normal criteria to evaluate a party are at 50 percent. If blacks are at 100 percent support for President Obama and the Democratic Party they are using different criteria to evaluate, perhaps race.

But no matter how bad he is or what he does, blacks will support their own jsut because.

This may be a more broad impression of Romney than just the African American Community. To me, Romney personifies the commoditization and disposability of the American worker in the name of investment mazimization. I myself compete with 100's of thousands of foreign national technology workers that has led to lower wages and a culture of complete human disposability with absolutely no consequences. These folks I compete with are almost always in thier 20's, they are not raising families nor do they have any community ties. They don't have health care costs nor are they paying mortgages.

 

A fellow in my town recently took his own life. He was laid off from his employer after 23 years of employment, and 18 months short of being vested in the retirement plan. He had a heart attack following his separation and no health insurance. His employer is not facing financial adversity. He became dispondent and ended his life. This is the 47% Romney believes he does not need to be concerned about!

The Democratic party spends a lot of effort on the black vote as a bloc since without they would be toast at the national level. The Republicans just do not or have given up since they focus on individualism far more.

That's a nice narrative until you look past the racism that suggest blacks only vote to keep their welfare checks and realize whites make up a far larger percentage of folks on welfare than black people. The interesting thing that has also arisen since the famous 47% comments is that 8 or 9 of the top 10 welfare states are deeply Republican states. Go figure.

History does not support your view that this isn't news. As the article said, Rs have gotten as high as 11% of the vote in recent history. Many blacks that are "of the church" are very conservative. To see such a low level of support in the last election and what appears to be true for this coming election should be telling. Instead, too many just say "they always vote D."

History indicates developed under the Roosevelt aministration and greatly expanded under the LBJ administration. I don't disagree that there is somewhat of a dependency problem with entitlements but that doesn't mean that we throw the baby out with the bath water. There are people that use welfare, snap benefits, unemployement, wic, etc as a temporary hand up. There is a work requirment with welfare that requires 30 hours of work to receive cash benefits in KY unless you meet some medical exception so it's not like that can be a major problem. The dependency problem in appalachia is with social security disability (the draw). There is no way this program can be ended because of the people with real disabilities. I'm all for improving the process, making it more difficult to get a crazy check but I don't know what else can be done. I was obviously referring to FDR in my previous post, don't know how I misread that for LBJ.

The republicans have done nothing to change the welfare state of this nation. Nothing. At that is my point. Democrats get the blame but republicans have yet to end welfare or even reform it to any of your satisfactions.
