October 9, 201214 yr Author Yuengling.* Nothing else matters. * It isn't sold in Ky so you'll need to find people traveling through Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, West Virginia, Virginia....I've been fortunate that I am in central Ky and I haven't been out of Yuengling since June. I have some excellent friends who always seem to be traveling. Drink Yuengling a lot, it is available right across the river.
October 9, 201214 yr Author What area do you live in? You might try going to a bar known for beer and getting a flight, that way you can try several different beers at an affordable price. Or, if a liquor store near you has growlers you can usually sample what's on tap. I live in Belfry. No bars that have anything different closer than Ashland, Huntington, or Charleston. Pikeville doesn't have much in forms of different things even at WalMart or liquor stores.
October 9, 201214 yr Try some IPA's and if you like them then get back to me. There are many to list.
October 9, 201214 yr October is my favorite month to be a beer drinker. Went to a reds game recently and finally got to try out the highly touted hofbrauhaus in Newport. I fell in love with their Oktoberfest beer. If you can, try it out. If not, the Sam Adams harvest pumpkin ale or Oktoberfest beer. All are great!
October 9, 201214 yr To add to my last post, if you can't make it to Newport or you aren't into the fall seasonals, go with Yuengling. Definitely cannot go wrong with at selection either. Its just hard to get if you aren't near an eastern border of the state.
October 9, 201214 yr A few I like: KY Bourbon Barrel Ale Hoegaarden Fat Tire Avery White Rascal Great choice. ^^ That along with Goose Island 312 are my favorites!
October 9, 201214 yr Start with Aass Bock and try everything alphabetically up to and including Zywiec Beer. :ylsuper:
October 9, 201214 yr Southern Tier Pumking is easily my favorite pumpkin beer. I second that. Just discovered it recently, in fact. I have been missing out. A little pricey, but worth it. I was told Southern Tier makes quite a few flavored beers. Any other favorites from them?
October 10, 201214 yr I second that. Just discovered it recently, in fact. I have been missing out. A little pricey, but worth it. I was told Southern Tier makes quite a few flavored beers. Any other favorites from them? I honestly haven't had many of their offerings. I do like their Double IPA though.
October 10, 201214 yr Southern Tier's 2xipa is very good. As far as advise to develope the palate, it's really just trial and error. I remember my first IPA and I thought it was terrible, now I love them. I used to dislike most porters and stouts but now I like them. A few brands that I would suggest would be Bells, Founders and Green Flash.
October 10, 201214 yr Quantity- Bud Light, and yes, light beers to taste different that one another, as do beer out of cans v. out of bottles v. drafts. Quality- Yengling and its really not that close. I lived near Pittsburgh last year, the stuff was cheaper than Bud Light. I want to say ~$5.50 for a six pack.
October 10, 201214 yr Quality- Yengling and its really not that close. I lived near Pittsburgh last year, the stuff was cheaper than Bud Light. I want to say ~$5.50 for a six pack. That was my favorite thing about visiting Pittsburgh. Went to a bar prior to the Pirates game we attended that sold 22 oz drafts of Yuengling for two bucks. Not too bad at all.
October 11, 201214 yr Try Bell's Third Coast Old Ale. Its a barleywine style beer. 10.2% alcohol, so watch how fast you are consuming...
October 12, 201214 yr Southern Tier Pumking is easily my favorite pumpkin beer. Having a glass of this at Galvin's in Georgetown right now!
