Stanford would be 27. But when you get to the 27/150 stop light in Stanford, take 150 west to Danville. When you get near Danville you will see old 150 veer right from the main road. Take that veer and follow it for a little over a mile. This is a two-lane road. You will come to a red light; go through that light and the stadium will be just ahead on the left. You should be able to see it once you go through the red light.

The 4-2 Somerset Briar Jumpers travel to Titletown to take on the 5-1 Admirals. Although Lexington Christian will have plenty to say about it this game will give one of these teams a huge leg up on the #1 seed in the district. The Somerset defense has been great so far but their offense has been far from impressive. Can they score enough points to upend the Ads on the road?

 

The Admirals have been very solid overall but have seemed to lose focus at times this season. Also, they are on a four game losing streak to Somerset and have frankly been pushed around in those games. Will they come out focused and match Somerset's intensity?

 

Should be a great matchup.

Danville's body of work so far has to make them the favorite in this game. They lost a one possession game to 6A Powerhouse Simon Kenton, Beat 4A perennial power Boyle Co and 3A perennial power Corbin. Danville has also rolled over Lincoln, Southwestern and Green County easily.

 

Somerset so far has given up only 55 points but has only scored 125 points, the second lowest amount of any 2A team with a winning record. Somerset has only went over 20 points one time and that was against a team that didn't seem to have any defensive game plan.

 

Seeing at least 6 kids out of the game at the end last week, I know Somerset is very very banged up.

 

I picked Somerset because well, I never pick against them. But it will be a chore to win this week in Danville.

The Briar Jumpers defense is a big concern. The most the Ads have trailed this season is 7 points and have only trailed after half-time twice (Boyle and Simon Kenton). Danville has not faced the adversity of having to come from too far behind and I wouldn't want that experience to come this week.

 

The personnel has changed but the teams know each other fairly well. There is no doubt that Somerset has the mental edge from having four consecutive wins. There are also enough Ads left this season from those previous teams that, if they are fortunate enough to win, I believe will be the difference.

 

Both teams have scheduled well this season (as they should) but that competition comes with a price as most teams are banged up a little this time of the year. Just like I said last week though, Danville will see Somerset's best effort of the season and it is up to the Ads to meet the challenge.

Jk Howard, one of Danville's biggest lineman won't play Friday, and will be out 4 weeks due to surgery on his hand. Also, Michael Jones another big lineman had four wisdom teeth removed last week and may be feeling the effects, plus several cases of a stomach bug have slowed some palyers. We will just have to see what effect this has on the game. I think I heard Somerset may have some injuries.

Good for Somerset they have been playing 22-25 kids in most games.

I don't see 33 scored on that defense either. I said 21, but it could as well turn out to be a 7-6, 8-7 type of score.

Danville has less than 40 on the roster and plays about 25. This game will be no doubt be physical so I just hope it doesn't turn into a Freshmen/JV game before it is over.

The Ads have to prove they can beat a team that has had their number in recent times. It would help to score early and put the pressure on Somerset's offense. There may not be many drives to start because I feel this will be a low scoring game but Somerset will have to go eighty yards when receiving kickoffs.

 

This is a different team who no one thought could beat Boyle and had their chances against Simon Kenton. The Ads know the significance of this game. I will stick by the Ads.

I thought they already did that with the Boyle victory. They hadn't defeated the Rebels since 2007.

Hatz, I can't really speak for BlueXpress, but maybe he was thinking like Somerset that has held Danville from winning the district and advancing in the playoffs. I know when I played, Woodford County would knock us out of the playoffs, it just seemed we couldn't jump that hurdle.

Exactly. It is Somerset that knocked the Ads out twice last season. The previous two years were all Jumpers too that set the tone prior to both being in 2A.

I would say the same in reverse but I am banking on the fact that the Ads did face a solid 6A defense and have improved offensivey since then. Boyle's defense was solid too even if they were gassed at the end.
