Will Antonio Campbell be in a Holy Cross Indian uniform this season?

Featured Replies

It is my understanding from a very good source that Campbell's attempt to enroll at Taft was short lived due to eligibility issues. The primary reason he left HCC was due to non payment of tuition allegedly.

So the word is Campbell was back on HCC's doorstep this week with a check for a very very small portion of tuition asking if he could come back. If he is allowed back in the school how is that fair to the kids who's familys have to work their tails off to cover tuition so they can get a private education. This ain't layaway for Division 1 athletes is it? :idunno:

HC probably has more than one kid paying less than full tuition. Every Catholic school does.

So, yes, it's fair.

So will he be an Indian? Also, I understand HCC is being looked at closely but also have heard the KHsAA is basically throwing in the towel on trying to investigate the various issues across the state due to the legal costs involved. Get ready for the Wild Wild West baby.

Very tough to prove if there is anything wrong being done. Campbell's problems are from not paying tuition so that says Holy Cross isn't doing anything wrong. If arguably the best athlete in the school is forced to leave over tuition, then you would think there are no issues. If he is now allowed in at a reduced tuition and there are other students in the general student body getting the same aid, then I think that falls within the KHSAA rules.

I think that a student's financial issues are personal and private.

If the details of his tuition account become public knowledge, I believe that is a privacy violation. Somebody who is privy to that information is not doing their job.

It's all speculation at this point but also pretty obvious if the kid returns. I mean if he was removed for nonpayment then returns are we supposed to assume his parents hit on a scratch off or he is on a reduced tuition schedule. If that's the case then fine but I just hope its all legit and the money is coming from legit sources.

Lets see if I got this right.

He didn't pay and he could play. (Holy Cross 2011)

He couldn't/wouldn't pay, so he couldn't play. (Holy Cross 2012)

He didn't have to pay, but he couldn't play. (Taft 2012}

He now can pay (some?) and he wants to play. {Holy Cross 2012)

Why can't he play at Taft? My cousins kid transferred schools within Ohio and was able to play. They said as long as the schools were not in the same conference. Did Campbell end up with a KY address? I know kids from Ky can't play for Ohio teams?

Transfers in OH are not so easy if the school is doing things the right way. My son personally just went through this and the documentation process was a real pain and very time consuming. I guess a school may choose to not follow the rules of the OHSAA but my experience was eye opening.

Just a question to any Holy Cross alum or supporter......What the hell is going on down there????? I think all this nonsense is a direct result of Bruce takin' the buses into Cincy years ago and bring kids over for football and now it has spread to the hoops program. This situation is nothing more than a FIASCO!!

And for those that think that the bolded above is a myth, I talk to one of the "bus" drivers on a regular basis who told about his route thru Avondale.

Does anyone know if Campbell was in a work study program, or did his Mom work after school at HC to reduce his tuition?

Catholic School budgets like the Public School budgets are tight and I mean very tight and most just can't let a family get by without paying or doing something to help defray the cost of their children tuition!

Wow. Talk about a lot of stuff that is none of our business. So maybe they are having trouble paying tuition. I can understand that. I have 2 in catholic schools myself and it aint' cheap! I'm sure HC will work something out with the family and whatever they work out is none of our business as long as what HC does for this family, they do for any family going to HC who is having similar trouble. This kind of thing happens frequently; we just don't hear about it because it doesn't involve star basketball players.

As an alumni of HC and someone who will probably not send his kids their in part due to the tuition I would have pay. I hope that the schools does whatever necassary to keep this kid in school. From all accounts this is a good kid who has done NOTHING wrong. He is not in the same situation as every other student due to eligibility issues and his division 1 scholarship hanging in the balance and that should be recognized. Taking care of this young man should be the most important part of this process, not wins or losses. If it does not work out I would also be in favor of the KHSAA allowing him to go to the local public school with out any eligibility restrictions.

Unfortunately, I think the KHSAA rule on athletes should be very simple - no tuition aid allowed. It is black and white and easy to enforce. For those who say it isn't fair, if an athlete wants to play he/she has other options. They can always attend public school and play sports. If the rule is that simple and clear cut, we would never have any questions about whether things are being done the right way.
