September 12, 201214 yr Jim Calhoun to Retire: TV Report | The Big Lead Jim Calhoun, the UConn basketball coach since 1986, is going to retire, according to a TV report. Calhoun, who essentially built the Huskies program, took UConn to four Final Fours, and won three titles (1999, 2004, 2011).
September 12, 201214 yr Unless he is really sick or being forced out this is a gutless and classless move.
September 12, 201214 yr Unless he is really sick or being forced out this is a gutless and classless move. Doesn't UConn have to sit out the tourney this season? Maybe he waited this long to try to ensure that one of his assistants got the interim job.

September 13, 201214 yr Doesn't UConn have to sit out the tourney this season? Maybe he waited this long to try to ensure that one of his assistants got the interim job. Kevin Ollie. This has been the expected move for a long time. Most were surprised he didn't pull it a year ago...
September 13, 201214 yr Best part is Ollie might not accept the interim position. He wants the job and a 3 year contract. UConn only wants him as the interim...

September 13, 201214 yr Best part is Ollie might not accept the interim position. He wants the job and a 3 year contract. UConn only wants him as the interim... That's awfully big of UConn to let him coach a season going nowhere but not let him have first crack at succeeding Calhoun. If I'm Ollie I think I would leave unless they would give him a contract.
September 13, 201214 yr Sounds like he will take the interim spot, and be evaluated for the full time position through the year. With a depleted roster, that doesn't sound like a wise idea...
September 13, 201214 yr Anyone think UConn doesn't really want Ollie on a permanent basis? Obviously they want someone far more established, which is why Calhoun tried to force their hand with Ollie...
