HHS has given up 64 more points thru 3 games than last year. Cause for concern--sure, fixable--yeah, particueally special teams.

If they continue to score 54 a game, They will be just fine.

Birds won 28-17..Not sure who played but I would take a guess that 40 kids played last night at Western. HHS has been playing a ton of Sophs on defense..

Spoiled by last years team? This team has scored 21 points more than last years team at this point in the season.

 

This team is clearly not as good as last years team at this point. The defense was stout last year and this year they seem vulnerable, especially to the run. Special teams is down this year. And last year was better on offense. And, that is why I am saying we were spoiled by last years team.

 

Also, this team needs to score more points because they give up a lot.

I don't understand why last years offense was better when this years team has scored more points and played Scott co the second when last year they played dixie the second game. I do not disagree about the defensive side of the ball, but the offense is just as good. IMO

Patrick Towles. He was one of the best QB's in the country. McCoy is a really solid starter at QB, but he isn't near Towles. The passing game was light-years better. Furthermore, 2011 team could have scored a lot more points if they were not taken out because of large leads. Teams play a lot more conservative when they are up by 20 points. I just think they lost a lot with Pat Towles IMO, but isn't that expected?

I wouldn't be so worried about the defense either. While they may not be as deep as they were last season, a lot of kids are getting reps right now. Getting the experience they need for the stretch run. If you look at what the first team D has given up to date, I believe it is 2-3 scores max through the first three games, the sky is not falling. Some kids are banged up right now, hopefully that resolves itself very soon. The first team D is very good. A lot of kids are being worked in and getting better with every rep. Special teams needs some work, but I believe that will be resolved as well.

Seriously, CovCath will be a major measuring stick as to where this team is early in the year. I know its a long season and they are missing a couple of their top WR's but that game is HUGE.

 

This week vs Mason Co is a good game to get things fixed and tighten up the passing game.

The running game does seem to be better this year. I just think last years offense was more explosive and the pass set up the run quite well. The offense finished in the top 5 all time in scoring in the nations history last year, so it isn't putting them down. There are hundreds of thousands of other offenses that didn't score as much as Highlands did last year. I think that was a very special offense last year. I will say that the season isn't over though, my mind can change and I hope it does.
