What can the 6A public school programs learn from Bowling Green's success?

Something that has been mentioned upthread, but Bowling Green is fantastic at academics and is regionally very good in all sports. They have a tremendous support system that is built upon a school that has existed for 104 years and has played football since 1922. They do attract some talent from surrounding schools - they are hardly alone in that respect around here.

So Bowling Green is open enrollment?

No, none of the schools around here are. Be it moving, paying tuition, etc., people sometimes switch schools.

So how do you avoid triggering the transfer rules?

Physical move generally. A lot of the movement takes place at the middle school level where no such rules apply.

Be independent.

I wish you knew what "be independent" actually means.

Lol. I dont know why I ever post on here. Lol everybody know everything. Lol

I think this year and last year they have had very good line play. Where in the past, there may have been to much of a gap between the talent at the skill and line positions.

I appreciate DF's comments. I am most proud of the great job BGHS does with its academics. It has a very diverse school population, large percent of free/reduced lunch, large number of minorities, more that 20 different languages (ESL), and a very successful AP program. BGHS is also successful in other sports, for 2011-12, using the RIHERDS listed sports, they had a combined record of 189-44 (80+%) and were regional competitors in those same sports.

Soooooo, the independent schools are no longer public schools and are lumped with the privates. Duly noted.

Serious question: what county schools do well academically? I mean high test scores.

One member made a comment, that I tend to agree with, that those schools that are very successful in football tend to have very good test scores. I just wonder if that works in reverse, do school with high test scores have a lot of success in football.

Boyle County is one.

Danville isn't a 'county' school but they are also a fine academic school also.

I am fairly certain they did that back in 2005 during the debate about the public/private split.

I had no clue. I've always tried to steer clear of that debate. I'm pro-private school and seeing as how I am affiliated with an independent school I guess that now explains my affiliation.

If you glance over the threads in the Public/Private forum you will see some of the most heated debates I have ever seen on BGP, probably more so than in Politics these days. It was a full time job for some of us private school folks keeping up with it.

I remember a few of them but I always tried to steer clear. I never knew the independents were considered privates also. I graduated from Bowling Green and I could have sworn it was a public school. I think it was free. I just figured it was called Bowling Green Independent Schools because Warren County had already taken the Public Schools label to put on the side of their busses. We never copycat at BG. :D
