I hate to see kids quit in the middle of the year for any reason. You have teammates that are counting you.

After watching the Russell Ashland game last Friday, I only saw two players on the floor who were typical "Ashland players" and those were Thomas and McDavid. The other kids would have been sitting the bench in the 80's and 90's and probably. wouldn't have made the team back in the glory years. Today's kids would rather quit and blame someone else for their failures than admit they aren't very good. I have seen this at many, many high schools and it is representative of today's society much more than anything against Flynn or any other high school coach. Sounds like some of the Ashland folks can't handle the fact they are no longer the best thing going in the region.

I don't claim to be an Ashland fan but my view is this, A. I don't think any honest Ashland fan expected to be the best thing going in the region. B. I also don't think the Ashland fans have much of a choice at this point, many of the schools in the districts of our region have had times that they felt like the wheels were coming off. You have no choice but to "handle it". Many times a program must have a facelift to change direction. Sometimes it goes a little higher than the coach, although he usually fields most of the ridicule. My point here is be sure where it is you point your finger.

Ashland has 6 or players that can play basketball. With that said Thomas and McDavid are the 2 best players on the team and are going to score the majority of the points, but when you watch Ashland run its offense these 2 are usually the only ones involved. The other 3 out on the court are usually outside the 3 point line on the wing or baseline doing nothing. I have asked these other players why they aren't setting picks and moving like a good motion offense and they all stated that they are doing what they are supposed to be doing which is watching. I think the others need to get involved in the offense which will then free up McDavid and Thomas for more open looks.

Im afraid you are badly mistaken here. Sure it appears that way because the ENTIRE system is revolved around those 2 players. Wilcox and Cannoy could start for 10-15 teams in the region. I'll have more time to talk about this later btw.

Wilcox seems to be getting his share of looks but he has to be able to get his shot off.

I agree with this post as well.

Quitting is always the best option.

Parents who allow their kids to quit a sport they started are a major problem in high school and youth sports today. Blame the Coach for being a quitter. A common theme these days.

I know these guys that have quit and they are not quitters. Joe Smith has played football for 2 seasons with an injured shoulder. He worked hard both seasons so he could get back on the field and made a big impact for the Cats. The only thing these guys have ever quit is basketball. You can only take so much frustration and discouragement and then it gets to be where it's not worth it any more.

One of the fathers of the group of boys that graduated last year made the statement the reason none of those boys played was because flynn told them in the 8th grade they weren't good enough to play so don't bother to try out. So none of them did.

So i looked in the yearbook at the Freshman team for that year. It had 7 or 8 players from verity middle school on the freshman team. None of the stars that had played on the 8th grade team the year before, the ones that would actually be Freshman.

the Freshman team was made up of Drew mcdavid 7th grade, Tyler Reliford 8th, Wilcox, 8th, Alex Wheeler 8th, joe smith 8th grade, ian holbrook 8th grade and some Freshman boys that didn't get much playing time

those types of comments really hurt the moral of a team, and keeps late bloomers like Kovach from coming out
