As far as helping him, I have no idea what form that would (or could) take.

Make a donation to the salvation army. Seriously, it would be a big help for not just him but many others. I know someone who served on their advisory board and he told me that they appreciate all the help they can receive.

Plus prayers have a way of being answered. I don't know Shippy presonally but I do remember him as an invaluable member of the JAWS defense at Ashland. I hope things get better for him.

Shippey has suffered some tragic losses. He deserves compassion rather than BGP coverage. Maybe some of you Ashlanders could lend a hand and give some encouragement to one of your own. I feel sure that you don't want to overlook one who helped build the tradition.

He has received some help, courtesy of ASG.

Good thoughts and a fine suggestion from Rickyp. We all enjoy athletics and BGP because, in my mind, it is a diversion from the many terrible turns that we endure in life. However, we should never forget that there is a suffocating amount of pain, suffering, and depression around us. Athletics and BGP merely help us escape for a few minutes.

Excellent suggestion, RickyP. Excellent.

You are absolutely correct, scooterbob. Just like going to a movie, you get a couple hours' worth of escape, but reality is always there.

Where is Shippey now? Last time I saw him, he looked like death warmed over...

I hope he is doing better now.

You just have to see the hair!

Jay is living on the streets as much as I can tell. He did get some items from some Ashland fans but they were stolen later the same day.

He did say he could still run the wishbone!!!

On another note: Kovach and Harkins had something in common, they threw a baseball left handed and shot basketball right handed.

Frances, I actually got a call from Jay a couple of months ago. I didn't recognize him at first. He is in pretty bad shape. He was in the hospital at the time. Mrs. Catdaddy checked in on his condition and he was released shortly after we talked. I haven't heard from him since.
