If you thought Clint Eastwood was good then I do not know what to tell you. SNL now has room for an opening monologue for the next 8 weeks because of it. He came across as old, uninformed, and creepy. I guarantee you Obama and company were smiling all of last night because he pretty much trumped what Romney did (which I thought Romney did pretty well, nothing special but good).

 

With that said, it made for the best half hour of twitter ever following his speech.

 

Apparently one of the spokesmen from the Obama campaign told people he was "referring all questions on that speech to Salvador Dali." I liked that.

Has foreign policy experience now taken a back seat? Was it overblown in 2008?

 

It has taken a back seat to the economy but that doesn't mean it was overblown in 08. Obviously each election and party has it's own emphasis. My guess is foreign policy will start to ramp up when the Democrat's convention comes around. Strangely enough, that is their strongest card in a weak hand.

I think these things wax and wane. Foreign policy experience comes up as an issue mostly when issues overseas capture American interest. I don't recall the 2000 election being contested over foreign policy much at all. But following Sept. 11, 2001, the global war on terror moved international issues to the front of the national consciousness. With the Iraq War drawing to a close, not to mention the passing of more than a decade since the 9/11 attacks, that subsided and was certainly eclipsed by pressing matters at home when the economy started to shrink.

They're going on but it's impossible to say that they're anywhere near the forefront of the conversation like these issues were just a few years ago.

Depends on the individual but to me it's a strong number 2. The problem is so many issues are related to multiple policies. Immigration for instance. It involves foreign policy, economic and social issues, probably others that I can't think of offhand. The importance a person attaches to those relationships blend together to help form his/her overall opinion on immigratin as a whole. One person might be more worried about open borders and national security. Another might be worried about the impact on social programs. A third might worry about the impact on jobs. We live in a gray world. Most of us anyway.

You would think so but it doesn't seem to be heading that way. One thing that made it more at the forefront in 2008 was the attention in the media with the US military death counts each month. Haven't really noticed those articles in a while.

You could be right, my friend. I just don't see Paul being able to surpass other candidates that I believe will run, such as Bush, Christie, & Rubio. Only time will tell.

So Clint Eastwod was there for no reason at all. I have no clue what he was trying to talk about. :lol:

 

IMO, it was refreshing to see something that was NOT scripted. Most of it was ad-lib and he is 82. I thought he was brilliant. He spoke from the heart and voiced his opinions in his own unique style - calm, cool and with his own low-key humor. I can't think of anyone more authentic than Clint Eastwood.

 

Quite honestly, it occurs to me that the more off-the-wall your sense of humor is, the more you appreciated the humor in Eastwood's speech........people who thought it was disjointed or rambling missed the whole point............it was ORIGINAL, it was DIFFERENT, it was FUNNY and it got its point across when he stressed that this election isn't a Democrat vs. Republican thing.......it's all about getting rid of an employee who isn't doing what he was hired to do and replacing him with someone who seems to be more qualified........Clint said it best, "they work for us".
