Back to this for a second. No way Rep Ryan was lying AT THE TIME he made the statement about being greatly influenced by Ayn Rand. Today he says he's not. I think we can all agree that something that caught his attention and fascinated him as a young man has now evolved to the point of either completely saying "I was wrong" OR " My position has evolved."

Like I said earlier, in this thread or a related one, Candidate Romney was losing the base and had to do something to shore it up. His support for privatization of Social Security, redirection of resources to corporations and wealthy individuals, granting full citizenship rights to fertilized embryos (but supporting the denial of abortions to women at iminent risk of death) should make him the poster boy of well-to-do guys in board rooms and clubhouses across the country.

 

All that being said, he is still a better choice than Ms. Palin was. At least he hasn't deep-sixed the R's chances yet.

It has been pointed out that that is what is done in many of these 'swing state' public polls. Statistically it is supposed to be valid based on voter turn out in 2008. So it is not just arbitrary slanting.

Paul Ryan did his legal and fiduciary responsibility as Chairman of the Budget - he created a budget. It was his job and he did it.

Yes, its a trick question - the Democratically controlled House did not create any budgets. They (Spratt) failed minimum requirements.

 

 

Like any budget there is likely things to agree with and disagree with. But as of now there is no alternative. None. No counter proposed budget. So you how do you debate and amend the budget where there is nothing being proposed?

Figures lie and liers figure is the old saying. These media polls are mostly for news and headline drama. The real polling is the internals that each campaign does. That is where best outlook is. But those are under heavy guard by each camp.

 

But here is a hint - the media polls keep showing Ohio as 'leaning Obama'. Does a state that is leaning toward a candidate get 3 visits in one month and get its ballot laws attacked in the same month? The internals on Ohio are a lot different than the externals. And they likely got worse with the Ryan pick.

There were proposals from the Repub side. But they were much smaller and got little press. And once the train got rolling on the AHCA monster there was no stopping it. The Dems had the house and the super majority in the Senate - until Kennedy passed.

 

If you actually look at the AHCA it was literally one of the fastest tracked bills ever done for anything of any size or magnitude. It was done - start to finish - in around 2 months. There are bills for $100,000 in cost that take twice that long to get passed. So it was rammed through without much debate from anyone on either side. The Repubs were basically roadkill in this process.

 

Now the minority can influence bills and things - IF THE RULES ALLOW IT. The Repubs have threatened to fillibuster items they do not agree with. Bad Repubs, right? I would say yes without context.

 

But lets get context - the Senate leadership (read Harry Reid) will not allow votes on amendments offered by Repubs. So the last parliamentary tool to have any influence is - the filibuster. So its like Batman and the Joker - "You made me" "You made me first". Reid has changed the rules to take away the influence and ideas of the minority party.

 

I find it amazing to do this. But here is a clip from the Daily Show with Rubio on it (yes - we are using Comedy Central for real facts here).

 

At the 7 minute mark its interest. At the 8 minute mark the discussion goes to amendments and filibusters. Rubio explains why they have had to use the filibuster.
