I still lean towards Trout.

If Trout wins the MVP, the award has officially lost all it's value. No way should anyone not named Miguel Cabrera (assuming he doesn't choke away the 3x Crown) even receive a 1st place vote.

Here's what I see. Trout is at or near the top in almost every offensive category. He plays monster defense. He scores runs like hardly any player in recent memory. He steals bases.

 

Miggy is one of the greatest RH hitters ever but I don't believe his season has been as good as Trout's.

The Triple Crown is the hardest accolade for an individual hitter to accomplish. In this day and age to be able to lead the league in Average, HRs, and RBI is insane. Probably the most impressive baseball achievement I've ever seen in my lifetime. Factor in he's had a huge September, the most crucial, clutch month of the season, led his team to the postseason (while Trout has led his Angels to an early offseason), and played better than adequate defense after making a position switch this season, and it's a no brainer. Anyone voting for Trout is way too caught up in the whole "he's doing this as a rookie" thing.

The problem is, the guy he's behind in both, is Cabrera. I'll give Trout props for the stolen bases, because you first have to get on base (hello Drew Stubbs!?!). And you can take a little of that philosophy into the runs scored...but, a lot of the time it's dependant on who's batting behind you.

 

And I just can't see someone coming this close to the triple crown and NOT getting the MVP.

Bull. Trout is a Gold Glove-caliber centerfielder. Cabrera is a below-average third baseman. Trout has a huge edge in defense, plus he's 46-for-50 in stolen base attempts. He's scoring nearly a run a game, has hit 30 homers and will have about 85-90 RBI from the leadoff spot, despite missing the first 20 games of the season.

 

And spare me the argument about the Tigers making the playoffs and the Angels falling short. The Angels will have a better record while playing in the tougher division.

Trout is hitting .272 since August 1st, including a poor .257 in September.

 

Cabrera is hitting .332 since August 1st with 18 HR and 51 RBI....He's hitting .308 with 10 HR and 27 RBI in September.
