If UK can field teams capable of getting safely drummed in the SEC while on probation and with scholarship limits then I don't see why Penn State can't do the same in the Big 10. Penn State will still be better than UK.

Penn State will still be better than UK. Not sure I agree with your last statement (I say a toss-up) but the sentiment is correct. If the Vandy geeks can be reasonably competitive against the SEC, no reason a watered-down PSU squad can't play even or better with the Indianas of the world and occasionally steal one against the upper-echelon of the Big 10.

They may not be deep, but this isn't a 1a high school playing Trinity. 1-AA schools manage to survive without getting killed.

I still think Penn State will be better than UK with their 65 scholarship players to 85 scholarship players for UK. Especially if Joker is allowed to stick around.
July 26, 201214 yr 1-AA schools don't play 12 games against BCS schools. True...but really...let's be serious. It's been mentioned...Vandy plays in the SEC and is usually terrible. Northwestern has been even worse on average for the last 50 years with an enrollment of less than 9k (most of the Big Ten has enrollments of over 20k) and survived in the Big 10. The service academies are seriously limited when it comes to recruiting...what NFL caliber recruit is going to go to Navy, Air Force or Army when they would have to wait 4 years to play in the NFL. These 3 school's probably has the least amount of talent of any D1 school. Navy lost 40 some games in a row to Notre Dame...nobody is getting seriously hurt at any of those schools. Worrying about Penn State's players safety is borderline silly.

But I'd say the vast majority will not be players that even stand a chance to to be 2nd string on PSU 2 years ago before all this debacle. Mark it down. It's gonna get ugly. I could see them not reaching double digit wins in the next 4 years....total.

I do think they'll win more than 10 games over the few years, though;) I'm just not buying that their players are in danger. They will still get more talent than Vandy and Northwestern, simply because PA, NJ and NY are talent rich states with not really any better options if you want to play bigtime D1 football close to home. Northwestern has survived with lower level D1 talent...they've only got 13 players on NFL rosters, and no first rounder since 2005. Vandy has 11. By comparison, D2 California, PA has 8 players on current NFL rosters. Nobody is crying about Vandy and Northwestern players getting hurt, and let's face it they aren't. It really is silly to worry about PSU's players safety.

July 26, 201214 yr Does everyone really think those 85 scholarship players on a team make an impact every season? The only impact I see it having is on depth. They'll still have 65 kids that can play, more than enough to be competitive in quite a few games.
