July 26, 201214 yr Who is from Lexington Catholic, then? If he is referring to Pence, he is way off the mark. Ben Revere is who I assumed. I didn't read the post closely enough.
July 26, 201214 yr But the one big reason they are shopping Victorino is because he is going to be a free agent. That is all I was saying to begin with. The same with Hamels. Common sense would say they would want to keep Hamels and not to sign Victorino. But if they were really interested in bringing Victorino back, wouldn't there be some indication of that?

I was saying they were shopping him because he will be a free agent. If he was signed for a couple of years they may not be shopping him at all.

July 26, 201214 yr Exactly. That's why the Victorino and Hamels situations aren't comparable. I never said they were comparable. I just said they were shopping both.

July 26, 201214 yr Never said that. Just said they were shopping both. There is no comparison between the two.Fair enough, but clearly they were being "shopped" for different reasons.
July 27, 201214 yr Ben Revere is who I assumed. I didn't read the post closely enough. I don't know who is from St. X, if anyone, but you're right that Revere (Twins) went to Lex Cath.

July 27, 201214 yr I don't think this move would have made much of an impact on the Reds during the regular season. Where it might end up hurting them is playoff time. Victorino has a lot of big game experience and would be much more likely to give the team a quality at bat in a big spot than Stubbs would. I view this much like the Ichiro trade for the Yankees--that one wasn't made with the regular season in mind but with the playoffs in mind.

What worries me is the Pirates have made themselves better this week, brought up their stud minor leaguer who can play, signed rodriguez in trade. Reds struggle against the Pirates because it is small ball with great pitching, we have a hard time hitting them, basically the Nationals and Pirates have kicked our butts because they have better piching period. We have to get another pitcher if we expect to end the season going to the Cardinals and Pirates the last 6 games of the season. Could be 0-6 very easy. Hitting is not going to win us the NL we are too young, we have to ride piching, get to the 7th and we got a great chance with our bull pen.

It's very debatable as to whether the Pirates really got all that better by acquiring Wandy (who the Reds hit pretty well btw). They're also 5-4 this season against the Cardinals, so not sure why you think they "could easily be 0-6". The Reds have had their best pitching (I believe team ERA of something like 3.31) team in over 20 years, and have the best pen in baseball. Who could they add (realistically) who would be a worth-while upgrade, without mortgaging their future?

I'm not sure how you consider that kicking their butts, but whatever. I personally don't think Wandy makes their rotation a whole lot better. He's a slight upgrade but not much. You're judging their 'stud minor leaguer' being helpful after one game. Enough said... Cincy has the second best ERA in MLB so I'm not sure how you can say the Pirates pitching is better. July 27, 201214 yr Author Andrew McCuthchen isn't going to continue to hit .447 the rest of the year like he did in July... Remember that crazy start Hamilton had? The regression is coming and it's going to be at a terrible time for the Pirates.
