ID Needed To Hear Speech Dissing Voter IDs

Featured Replies

I can see your point, but the need to identify yourself goes beyond just voting. (Banking, purchase alchohal, cigarettes, etc.) I personally would not equate it to a poll tax.
It would definately be a poll tax if you had to pay for an ID that you had to have in order to vote to vote .

But could you prove that you wouldn't or couldn't use that same ID for other requirements in your everyday life? I mean if you use it for other reasons, it wouldn't be a tax to vote, just a requirement to live in the world today!

There are people that don't drive, smoke, buy alcohol, fly, etc., that still want to vote.

Do they work, bank, or receive social security? You need an ID to get a job, you need an ID to get a bank account and if you receive a SS check you need to have a bank account!

A honest question? Whom do you honestly know, who doesn't have a single form of ID today?

My mother, who passed away back in October, did not. I believe that I outlined her circumstances in another thread about requiring government issued IDs to vote.

I would really like to see a statistic on that. How many people, who are legal residents, don't have an ID.

Yes even older Americans who receive Social Security Checks have to have an ID, as if I am not mistaken the Federal Government only deposits those checks into bank accounts via direct deposits!

I am not a kid any longer and am what a lot of young guys call an old man but I honestly don't know anyone from my age bracket who doesn't have any form of ID. Heck if nothing else if you were a guy, you have your old Draft Card as you were required by law to have one, if you were a teenagers from the 1950/1960.

Back when I ran a business in the public sector, I had to see two different forms of ID's from an employee for them to fill out an I-9 form so I could hire them. If they didn't have two, I couldn't hire them and if I remember correctly one had to have a photo on it!

Ok, I'm of two minds on this issue so here's what I'm looking for:

Does anyone have a link to what procedures would look like under one of the proposed voter ID laws? I'm curious about what the process looks like when you actually go to the polling place on election day and also about the process of obtaining an ID for someone currently without one.

You asked me a question and I responded. Further, I will tell you that before my mother passed away she moved into a nursing home and her social security check was deposited into their account. I would imagine that there are many nursing home residents in her situation - no government photo ID, not well enough to travel without ambulatory services and with strong mental facilities and the desire to vote.

How many cases of voter ID fraud has there been, for this to be such a large problem.
Don't know but how many does there need to be before it's an issue?
It depends on what the state says they are accepting. Many elderly do not drive and they are not taking wedding licensces and how many elderly people have their birth certificate lying around . . . I would be hard pressed to find mine. Many states are accepting NRA/Hunting licenses but not student ids. Why not? Many students do not drive so their ID is their student ID. Accept them and go on, unless your purpose is to suppress the vote. I thought our soldiers fought so that people could vote, not so that some come be denied.

They also fought for our right to bear arms but the left has no issue with requiring ID for that.

She didn't have a SS card?

No, I asked this question:

You said your Mother but she did by virtue of receiving a SS check! I didn't ask about a photo ID, just the question of a single form of ID today!

I don't know of anyone without a license. Everyone that I know drives and who is of age to drive/vote has a license which would be a proper form of government ID to vote. The issue is that some people don't have an acceptable form of government ID. While we may not know of people without government ID it doesn't mean that these people don't exist. They can have a photo ID that is a work badge but in Pennsylvania, for instance, that work badge would not be an acceptable photo ID to vote if I am not mistaken. I could be wrong on that. Just speaking on how I understood the Pennsylvania situation.
