July 2, 201214 yr What are Holliday's HR and RBI totals? The 3rd place Cardinals already have 4 All Stars compared to 3 for the 1st place Reds. A 5/2 number may have been a number MLB wouldn't have allowed. BA .307, 12 HR 49 RBIs TLR didn't choose any of the Cardinal players. 2 were voted in and 2 were selected by the players.

July 2, 201214 yr Author Hal McCoy's thoughts: Dayton Daily News : Did LaRussa do it on purpose??? Just now saw this. I agree with Hal.
July 2, 201214 yr How many players did PETA pick, and who were they? I posted that a while back in this thread.
July 2, 201214 yr LaRussa ignored ‘Sunday Pitcher Rule’ | Cincinnati Reds This is what LaRussa told Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: “If Dusty (Baker) had been more interested in Cueto being on the team, then he wouldn’t be pitching him on Sunday. Cueto probably would be on the team if he wasn’t pitching Sunday. (ii) Sunday Pitcher Rule. Any starting pitcher elected or selected to the All-Star team who makes a start on the Sunday immediately preceding the All-Star Game (“Sunday Pitcher”) shall have the option to participate or not participate in the All-Star Game. If such starting pitcher elects to participate in the All-Star Game, he will not be permitted to pitch for more than one inning, and he may also inform his manager that he should be removed from the game if he reaches a certain pitch count (irrespective of whether he has completed one inning), provided such pitch count is reasonable. If a Sunday Pitcher who was originally named to the team elects not to participate in the All-Star Game, he will be replaced on the roster but treated in the same manner as other All-Stars who are excused from participation, and he will be encouraged to attend and be announced at the All-Star Game.
July 2, 201214 yr Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN Greinke's pitching tonight, and then Saturday, leaving him in perfect position to be asked to pitch in the All-Star Game. It didn't happen. Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN In fact, the Brewers arranged Greinke's schedule so that he'll pitch this Saturday -- not Sunday -- and be in position to pitch ASG in K.C. There is speculation that Tony used the "Sunday" excuse for Greinke as well and that it stemmed from an incident last year.
July 2, 201214 yr Sweet16, have there been any rumors of problems between Holliday and PETA? not that I have heard or read.
July 2, 201214 yr I'd have more respect for TLR if he came out and said " I don't like Cueto because of his actions so I didn't pick him." I'd disagree but I'd respect it.
July 2, 201214 yr How many players did PETA pick, and who were they? LaRussa chose Ruiz, Desmond, Bruce, Stanton, Hamels, Papelbon, Kershaw, Miley and Street.
July 2, 201214 yr I got a question if Phillips is so deserving an all star spot then why didn't the players vote him in? Phillips is good but it comes down to who the fans vote in followed by the players. Then they have to take in account what teams have not received an invite yet. I think they need to take the rule that every team has to be represented and that would help.

July 2, 201214 yr There is speculation that Tony used the "Sunday" excuse for Greinke as well and that it stemmed from an incident last year.In an early-August series last year, LaRussa got bent out of shape at the Brewers because they were pitching Pujols high and tight, and rather effectively at that. In one game in the series, after the Brewers had just gone in there again on Pujols, Jason Motte threw his first pitch of the next inning behind Ryan Braun, then drilled him with the second pitch. LaRussa then, in veiled tones, intimated that the Brewers were trying to hurt Pujols, who had been battling some issues with his wrist. Greinke pitched the first game of the series, and if I remember correctly, Greinke exchanged some verbal barbs with LaRussa through the media. Greinke also took some verbal shots at Chris Carpenter during the playoffs last year.
July 2, 201214 yr As I said earlier the players aren't much better at picking players. Two words: Bryan LaHair. I agree with you on the LaHair selection.
