June 27, 201214 yr Where is the best place to watch the city of Independence firework show? I hear Kroger is a good spot. Is Vito doing their show again? Is it on the 4th? I would like to take my daughter. We used to park in Ace's parking lot as it was an easy out when they were over. Now my front yard is the ideal spot. We can't see the low stuff, but that's a very, very small part of the show.
June 27, 201214 yr I hope too. Just waiting to see if there will be a ban on them around my way. We blow up the sky every year. If there is a ban I'll probably wait until the ban is lifted and then blow up the sky. I love blowing up the sky.

June 27, 201214 yr I used to. I grew up next door to a guy who owns a firework store on Pike Street in Covington. Operates is out of his grandfather's old ice cream store on Pike Street. He eventually bought a 40 acre firework factory in China. Then he eventually bought himself some time in jail for illegal distribution. He was selling small-time, legal fireworks legally...but he was also selling BIG fireworks that required federal licensure to any old chump (or next door neighbor kid) off the street. I used to get silver salutes like they shoot off after homeruns at the Reds games. We would set of car alarms around the block just from the percussion of the explosion. Those were the days. Anyway...once the ATF converged on my parents' next door neighbors...I kinda stepped away from the amateur firework ring. This brings back memories. I grew up on 18th and Holman in Covington. We used to buy them in the back of a little grocery store on 17th and Banklick from a guy named Sonny. If he knew you he would sell you anything he had. We used to enjoy throwing M-80's into the sewer and popping the lids of them. Roman Candles were always fun in the alley firing them at each other. We would get all padded up and put on fencing helmets we bought at a yard sale. I was 10 years old at the time. Times have changed.

Kentucky fireworks laws were re-written last year to legalize the use of 1.4 consumer fireworks within the commonwealth. People can shoot off the same type of firewords that you can buy pretty much anywhere in Indiana and Tennessee.
June 27, 201214 yr The Mrs. and I have a party for the 4th every year at our place with family and friends. All of our neighbors invite people to their place and we have a great time with swimming, fishing, cornhole, grilling, cold drinks, and of course fireworks. I spend about $1,000 at Phantom every year and with their "buy one get one" deal put on a pretty good show at the park in our subdivion. Anyone else in BGP land love to blow up the sky?? I love it and I love to see all the kids faces! It is a great day we look forward to every year. With the 4th being on Wednesday we are having our party this Saturday and I am pumped!! We are having a party on Saturday and my buddy and I spent about 200 bucks each on them. He is in charge as I've become a little scared in my old age of them. My buddy enjoys bottle rockets and puts them in his golf bag this time of year. So if you are golfing at Fox Run or at Hickory Sticks on the 4th and you hear bottle rockets know we are near!!
June 27, 201214 yr I could care less about them and for sure won't waste money on them. Now if I am at a party, cookout, etc. I will pitch in if people go in together to buy them, just not a big fan for myself.

I used to do that as well...Glenn O' Swing was my homefield though but we went on the road to John G, 6th District and Latonia Elementary!!! Great memories..nothing better than buying 3-4 new rubber balls and heading to Glenn O!!!
June 30, 201214 yr Just got back from Phantom in Florence. Having a little shindig Tuesday night. Contacted local authorities to see whether or not there would be a ban & was told we would be okay. Hoping all goes well & we don't burn down our sub-division.
June 30, 201214 yr I spent my $ one time and bought a few big ones to go along with the neighbors on the circle. Mine was the first.....a 12 shot deal. It wasn't anchored properly and the first went up and was all pretty... ....second exploded under the neighbors suburban ....third exploded against the other neighbors front door ....fourth went INTO the new neighbors garage and exploded ....remember.....12 shots...... .....the fifth came right back at the 30 people in the front yard. ...not sure what happened after that.....we were in the back yard. Hilarious :notworthy::lol:
