3 Reasons Why You Set Up a Friend With a Date

Featured Replies

I was listening to a talk show yesterday and the guy had a theory that said there are ONLY 3 reasons why a friend sets up another friend of the same sex with a date.

1. Most common - You are digging that person but you can't have them because you're already in a relationship so you set your friend up.

2. You view your friend's standards as less than yours and set them up with a person you would not date.

3. You're a busy body who likes to be in your friends' business.

He claimed that all scenarios can be put into one of those 3.

Not sure I understand 1. So you are "digging" someone but you are in a relationship and can't have them so you want your buddy to have them? I don't think so.

I have a history of trying to set up single friends with girls that don't wan't to leave me alone and that I don't want anything to do with because they annoy me, I am not attracted to them at all or for various other reasons :D...I am a great friend

You've got it. The callers who called into the show would disagree with you.

Not sure that I've ever really tried to set somebody up, but I'm with HT in his response to #1. Obviously, the callers Clizzy mentions have done this, but that seems bizarre to me.

Nobody said you want the friend to be with that person long-term. Just keep 'em close as a backup plan.

Yep. And you get to get to know them without anyone questioning your intentions, you set them up with your friend afterall!

In my mind I was thinking of a married person but I guess if you are just dating someone that makes sense. Things might be weird for you and your friend if you start dating her down the road.

Don't buy any of these.

1. If I can't have her there is no way in hell my friend will either.

2. If his standards are less then mine I wouldn't put some"innocent lady" in that situation.

3. Not a busy body and could care less about his business.

If he is a good guy and the right girl came along then I might consider setting them up.

To be clear on #2: He was saying that the girl was below "your standards" so you set him up with a buddy who would likely be looking at the same "level."

Gotcha, I guess in that case misery loves company.

#1 sounds weird to me also. I guess I can understand other people being down with it, but if I'm diggin' a girl there is no way I want her dating my friend.
