June 20, 201214 yr When my Toshiba went down I purchased a Samsung 55" LED and the picture quality is mind blowing. It's amazing how quickly prices drop on these things so choose wisely. How much did you pay for that, if you don't mind my asking?

We stepped back a bit an my wife said the TV in the corner has the best picture. They were playing an NHL game and I couldn't agree more, it looked great. The TV itself was $1799 but they had some promo for the holidays. The TV plus a $300 sound bar for $1499. It was a no brainer and even more so since my old TV was dead. I absolutely love it.

July 5, 201214 yr Purchased a 37 inch HDTV 1080p 60 hz LG yesterday for $399.00 down from $499.99. "The Boss" gave in because my birthday is coming up soon! LG 37CS560: 37 inch Class 1080p LCD TV (37.0" diagonal) | LG USA I realize it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that all of you like but for this Theoldguy, it's good enough for the price!

February 8, 201313 yr Just found a 43" Samsung plasma ultraslim 720p - 600Hz on clearance for $380. The only thing I'm not sure about is the 720p. Obviously the 1080p would be ideal, but I'm thinking I might pull the trigger on this one based on the price. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I have a 1080p but don't find much media to run it. I'm more than happy with 720 until like 1540 or something comes along and cable supports it.

Anyone have any thoughts on that?From this review: We still believe that when you're dealing with TVs 50 inches and smaller, the added resolution has only a very minor impact on picture quality. In our tests, we put 720p (or 768p) sets next to 1080p sets, then feed them both the same source material, whether it's 1080i or 1080p, from the highest-quality Blu-ray player. We typically watch both sets for a while, with eyes darting back and forth between the two, looking for differences in the most-detailed sections, such as hair, textures of fabric, and grassy plains. Bottom line: It's almost always very difficult to see any difference--especially from farther than 8 feet away on a 50-inch TV.
