May 31, 201214 yr Any time I need a chuckle, all I have to do is open up a Reds thread and read posts drilling a first place team like they haven't won a game all year.
May 31, 201214 yr Dang, wish the Reds could have took 2 of 3 but it wasn't to be. Cueto with a nice performance, the bats just didn't show up.
May 31, 201214 yr No, not just defensive purposes. Primarily, I assume, because Cairo is faster than Costanzo. EZ, you make good points at times but there are other times when you just try too hard to bash Dusty. In baseball there are always going to be opportunities to second guess any manager where there is a legitimate, debatable decision. You don't have to second guess every decision. The move made very little sense to the announcers as well so it wasn't just a Dusty bash but you are right I hate Dusty Baker with a passion and I will take any and every chance to bash him. Why waste a possible pinch hitter with 2 outs when the sub is not clearly faster than the starter? Cairo has played no more first base than Costanzo has over the last few years so it wasn't clearly a great defensive move by the "toothpick" so why make the move, just to get Cairo in the game? With the weak bench that the Reds have they need any and every available hitter that might be able to get a hit for later in the game. Had this game gone to extras Valdez was the only player on the bench other than Meso.

If Cairo who is nearly my age is faster than Costanzo, then there's no more proof needed that Costanzo has no biz in the show.
May 31, 201214 yr To me it looks like Baker just threw two games. Monday's lineup was just ignorant and last nights leaves me scratching my head.
May 31, 201214 yr To me it looks like Baker just threw two games. Monday's lineup was just ignorant and last nights leaves me scratching my head. Let the bashing begin anew. Hopefully the Red's brass will wake up at some point this year and realize that the "toothpick" will not lead this young team to any hopes of competing for a championship. He may get them to the playoffs but it will a quick out imo. Let's get a manager in here that worries more about the fundamentals of the game and seeing that these young guys know "how" to play the game day in and day out instead of worrying about who has a better history versus what pitcher. Dusty drives me crazy with his infatuation for numbers. Maybe it's time to give David Bell a shot. He comes from a long lineage of baseball men and seems to have moved pretty quickly through the system and knows a lot of these current players. His record doesn't reflect it but word is that he has become a well respected manager in the minors since 2008.
