May 28, 201214 yr Nine games vs Pittsburgh and Houston seems like a good time to pull a few games ahead of the Cards.
May 28, 201214 yr The Reds need to open up some distance between themselves and the Cards with this next week's schedule. The Reds go to Pittsburgh and Houston who are near the bottom of the NL in batting average and have been struggling to score runs but do have some solid starting pitching. I'd say anything less than 4-2 on this trip would be a huge disappontment. St. Louis has to go to Atlanta and then NY to face the Mets. The Braves have struggled but will probably get McCann back which would help their struggling offense tremendously. The Mets have won 5 of 6 and have gotten very nice starting pitching in those 5 wins. The Cards continue to struggle outside the Central division where they feasted on the weak teams early. Take away a 3 game sweep of the bottom feeding SD Padres they are 6-10 outside their division. Let's hope that continues and the Reds can stay hot. My biggest fear is that Dusty tries to get the bench a lot of ABs this week and throws a couple of these games away. The Red's get little offense out of Valdez and Costanzo and Cairo has struggled to find his stroke. They do have an offday on Thursday the first since May 10th so that should come at a pretty good time. The Pirates should be just what the doctor ordered for Johnny C. to get back on track and Arroyo and Bailey have had good runs of quality starts.

May 28, 201214 yr Stubbs 8 Valdez 6 Votto 3 Phillips 4 Bruce 9 Heisey 7 Cairo 5, Hanigan 2 Arroyo 1 Well my biggest fear already comes to pass with Dusty's benching of Frazier and Cozart. Why sit Cozart when he looks like he is showing signs of hitting the ball to get Valdez some ABs? Valdez in the 2 hole, really Dusty? My first inclination was that Valdez and Cairo have these great numbers against McDonald but that is not the case. I could live with Cairo getting the start but not both he and Valdez at the same time. Don't you want to start the road trip off on a positive note by beating the opponents best starter? That could prove to be a tough job without Cozart and Frazier both today.

May 28, 201214 yr They're red hot right now and running into two mediocre teams. They've won 8 out of 9, let's see if they can continue the good stretch. They could very well be 10 games over .500 after these next 9 games.

Sorry I wasn't quick enough to give Dusty credit. He deserves it. I clearly said I hope he let's him go more than 3 outs when it's warranted. Yesterday it was and he did. Dusty is having a pretty good year IMO.

May 28, 201214 yr Wow. Thanks for sacrificing your precious time for a second post. No problem. Not at the pool yet so I had some time to give Dusty some credit. I'm not a big fan of his but I try to point out when he does what I perceive as good things. I'm just a fat guy on a couch after all.
