Wrongly accused ex-football star hoping NFL team gives him a shot

^ I agree, but the important thing it would show is if you acuse someone you better just tell the truth.

The women's rights activists would come out of the woodwork if they did claiming this will discourage other rape victims from coming forward.

That's a shame if that's the flawed logic they'd have..

Now, now. Let's keep it about the man getting out of jail and the liar that put him there. No need for elephants and donkeys to enter the conversation.

The former high-school football star and USC recruit who was jailed based on false testimony wants a shot at the NFL. Brian Banks also seeks compensation for his wrongful imprisonment.

According to the Associated Press, Banks will seek $100 per day for every day of his five-year imprisonment from the state of California. It’s a sum less than $200,000 — a far cry from fair compensation for five years behind bars.

Somebody please do not let this guy get away with only asking for $100 a day. I would go for a minimum of $100 an hour.

I agree, it doesn't seem like nearly enough but I admit I have no frame of reference in a case like this.

Pretty cool article here by Reilly.

Major props to the Seahawks, Chiefs, Redskins, and Dolphins.

Yeah because white is always right. I mean right is always right. My bad.

From the article UK posted:

Banks, who last week was exonerated of a rape conviction that put him in prison for five years, told ESPN columnist Rick Reilly that he'll work out with the Seattle Seahawks on June 7. TheWashington Redskins, Kansas City Chiefs andMiami Dolphins also have called to talk to him about a tryout.

"I'll make 'em happy," Banks, who's been training non-stop since October, told Reilly on Tuesday. "After all I've been through these last 10 years, I can still do some things that will impress you."

I hope it works out for him. I'll be rooting for his success.

You may be right, but I know two rape victims who still think there should be stiff penalties for women accusing people falsely of sex crimes.

I've never really looked into the precedent, but does someone who has been been falsely accused have any power to counter-sue for slander or libel? (Particularly when the accuser recants on their claims or all together admits to making up the accusations.)

Anyone can sue anyone for anything CWB, I am sure all the cases are so specific it is hard to generalize.

And I agree with your two friends. I think there should be severe penalties for falsely reporting any crime and especially sex crimes.
