Final Softball Poll

Featured Replies

In the final softball poll, Ryle (16-13) earned three of the six first-place votes to edge Conner (25-10) by two points. The two teams split their two regular-season matchups.

Ryle went 9-2 against Ninth Region teams and played a tough schedule that featured three teams from South Carolina, three teams from Ohio, a team from Tennessee and a team from Indiana.

St. Henry (25-7) finished third and didn’t earn a first-place vote. Conner received two and Walton-Verona, which finished fourth, received the other first-place vote. Bishop Brossart (24-12) :notworthy:finished fifth, Ahead of Simon Kenton (22-13), Dixie Heights (18-12), Boone County (18-9), Notre Dame (21-9) and Grant County (19-12-2)

What a joke. The poll is meaningless. None of these teams are ranked in the top 40 in the state poll except Walton and they finish 4th? They lose to Ryle 5-4 and beat Conner 10-3, did not play St.Henry. Their strength of schedule is the best in Northern Kentucky. What am I missing?:irked:

I'm with you on this sarge. Only six coaches voted and who knows who they were. It really doesn't mean a thing. Walton definitely should be at one IMO.

I have no problem with Ryle being ahead of Watlon bc of the head to head, and I would think their strength of schedule would be close. No way Walton could be worse than second. Do people that vote in these polls even pay attention. What is this poll, I guess we need a BGP poll to sort this out.

These polls are nothing more than conversation pieces. The real work starts now.

The top 5 would be correct if walton was at the 2 spot. IMO because of the head to head lose to Ryle.

As mentioned above, top 5, top 10, really doesn't mean a thing, especially at this point in the season. The top teams will all be playing in their respective regional tournaments. That's all that matters at this point. Good luck to all the teams in the post season.

No problem with Ryle but Walton beat Conner convincingly and never played St. Henry. If you go with strength of schedule Walton has clearly a tougher schedule than the rest.:idunno:

I'm with you Sarge, other than the 3 teams mentioned, IMO WV would have ZERO problem beating the rest of the top 10.

I really haven't looked at the statewide softball rankings. With only one NKY team in the top 40, where are most of the ranked teams from? Louisville?

^ Looks like a lot from Western Kentucky.

Thanks for the info.

Hey sarge, you say Walton Verona deserves to be #2 in the poll, well you had a heck of a time with Simon Kenton which isnt even ranked. Any one of the top five can be beat on any given day, even WV JMO

Thanks for the link RP. I had no idea that WKY was a softball hotbed!

On a side note, I used to know a Jim McAlister way back in the day; he was originally from Eminence. Surely the guy providing the rankings can't be the same guy?

SK is ranked #6. A win is a win.
