May 22, 201214 yr Author Reminds me of the repulicans hope in the summer of 2008. These things just never seem to gain momentum. People are dumb. This is going to come down to the economy and what the president or Romney can convince people about it in October. Unemployment rate and gasoline prices are what people will pay attention to. This ties directly into jobs/unemployment for voters. Let me qualify my following statements. I have no problem with what Bain did for the most part. They played by the rules given. They made money for their investors which is the sole reason they exist. That's awesome. I've got no problem with them doing what they did. HOWEVER, you can't say you've got experience in the private sector and you built companies when your sole existence as a company was to quickly turn a company no matter what it took ie killing jobs/leaving taxpayers with debt as listed above. You didn't build companies. You didn't build jobs. It wasn't even your second or third focus behind ROI. THAT will resonate with voters IMO who focus on job creation. Now if he has had success as the Governor of MA then I would run behind that. So I do think Bain is going to have play.
May 22, 201214 yr Someone, would you list Mr. Romney's agenda for economic recovery? I'd be most appreciative. Thanks in advance! Bueller? Bueller?

May 22, 201214 yr From his website. Jobs and Economic Growth | Mitt Romney for President I see a lot I like.
May 23, 201214 yr Author Well Romney is a successful businessman and Obama is not in business like Romney. The government is not a business. Correct, Ace. I've never fully understood that "he's a businessman" argument.
May 23, 201214 yr The government is not a business.Agreed. Business could operate the way Govt does , thank God.
May 23, 201214 yr Author A businessman would come in say it's less expensive to the taxpayers to outsource the military. He'd have a call center in India (Hello, my name is Bill) taking calls about Medicare and Social Security. It would certainly save us money. Is that what we're looking for?

Good points Clyde, but it makes horrible sense to print money at the rate we are now, devaluing it big time, and being in debt to the point we are, is simply unsustainable. The debt along with the health care additions and simply the number of people receiving hand outs from the government cannot continue. The bill will come due.

Two extreme examples but the second one would probably be an improvement over what we have now, and at much less cost to the taxpayers. I'm sure there are many areas where the government could operate more as a business and increase effeciency while reducing costs. The potential is certainly there anyway.
