Kentucky Favored to Win It All In 2013

Featured Replies

Until someone can knock Cal off from grabbing 4 or 5 All-Americans every year and reloading with guys to run his system, this will be the norm. IF Teague stays and they get Noel and Muhammed...smh

The only thing I don't like about moving forward is that we will not have that vetern (e.g. Patrick Patterson and Darius Miller).

Harrow and Wiltjer. Not quite the same but Harrow will be a 3rd year junior.

True, but Wiltjer will be here as will Harrow. Not veterans, but guys that have a decent amount of experience.

I'm pretty sure Harrow will be a 3rd year soph, not junior. Wasn't he the #3 PG in last year's class behind Kyrie and BKnight?

I meant to say soph, I guess the vast majority of juniors are in at least their 3rd year. I'm not sure where he ranked but I'm pretty sure he was a 5 star guy.

Marquis Teague is gone...as is MKG, Davis, Miller, Vargas, Lamb and Jones.

Not familiar with NBA contracts these days. How much can a second rounder expect to sign for?

nbadraft.net has 5 wildcats in the first round. Darius early 2nd.

1. Davis

2. Kidd-Gilcrest

18. Jones

23. Lamb

28. Teague

35. Miller

For people doubting Teague's draft stock, he just raised his stock 5-15 spots in six tournament games, especially in the first half of Tonight's title game and obviously Iowa State. He proved his ability, so there is a spot in the 15-25 range waiting on him. He's the only one of Cal's highly touted PG's to win it so why not leave and be one and done like the rest and go out with a ring. Give Harrow a shot next year. Just because you don't feel Teague should leave doesn't mean it isn't smart for him to go. In a deep draft class to go mid to late first round isn't a bad thing. Rondo went in the same range. That's worked out alright.

Not even likely to make the roster as a 2nd rounder but Teague really helped his draft stock. He will be a first round pick.

Second rounders have to make the team. They have no guarantees.

I don't think the notion of Kentucky being next year's favorite is that far fetched. You take two of the most important cornerstones and center pieces of this title team, Anthony Davis and MKG and you look at what they do. Davis was so impactful for many reasons, mainly the way he changed everything on the defensive end and on the boards. With Mike Gillie you have a guy with a non stop motor who does everything and does everything good. Okay, now you replace that with Nerlens Noel and Shabazz Muhammad. Noel even after Davis is considered to be the best natural shot blocker to come out in years, a once in a decade big. Doesn't have to be an offensive force to make a drastic impact on the game. Hmmm, should be able to step in and fill what should be a massive void (of Davis leaving) with as soft as landing as you could possibly have, I mean who else could even think about replacing that. BUT, Noel will go a long way to fill that hole. Then you lose MKG, okay, replace that with Muhammad. Like MKG who is an absolute gym rat and does all the little things and has the highest motor in high school basketball. Only difference is Muhammad has even more offensive skill than MKG, so if you can fill his void with Bazz your not feeling the loss as bad.

So that's two big time guys replacing two big time guys. PG is always a pivitol part of what Cal's teams do, and IMO Harrow is a very adequate replacement at point next season. In fact I see him being more ready and more productive than Teague was this year based on the fact he practically already has two years of college ball under his belt and has been running with the team in practice all season long. That's not even mentioning Wiltjer coming back, Archie G (who can score a ton and put the ball on the deck and get to the rim) and Alex Poythress who are all uber talented and offensively capable. Add to that I think Poythress and Goodwin can both be excellent defenders with Poythress being able to guard multiple positions. Any other recruits (Anthony Bennett, Amile Jefferson), or any other unseen contributions (Jon Hood, Willie Cauley) will only add to what potentially is a already a great team.

So with that said, I don't see why the concept would be so unbelievable, even if you lose everyone.
