Now the truth comes out:

 

Tim Tebow stood before a mass of media members at his introductory press conference with the New York Jets and said that he’s glad to be in the Big Apple — and that the Jets were the team he wanted the Broncos to trade him to.

 

Last week Tebow and Broncos boss John Elway differed in their accounts of how the trade from Denver to New York transpired, with Tebow saying he didn’t have any say. However, Tebow said Monday that the Broncos, and especially head coach John Fox, were gracious to him in asking him his preferences about where he’d like to play. Although Tebow said he would have enjoyed playing with his hometown team in Jacksonville, he said he spoke with Jets coach Rex Ryan and was even more excited about the role he could have with the Jets.

 

“They said ‘We have a few teams that are interested, similar deals,’ and he was very gracious to ask me what I thought,” Tebow said Monday of his conversations with the Broncos last week. “I told him I would love to be a Jet, and I told him that, also, the Jaguars are my hometown and whatever was best for them. He said the same for me. Ultimately they had my contract, they had all the power, but he listened to me and what I had to say. It was very gracious of them because they didn’t have to do that. They could have just done whatever but he listened to me and talked to me and I told him I would love to be a Jet.”

Folks, it wasn't that hard to figure out.

 

No reason for Elway to lie. All reports are that he genuinely likes Tebow the player - just not Tebow the QB.

I will say this, although I don't think much of Tebow the QB I never had an issue with Tebow the person until now. Very disappointing...

It sounds like he said he'd love to be a Jet and he'd love to be a Jaguar so to do what was best for the organization....Sounds like neither was lying.

Elway gave us what appears to be full disclosure of the events leading up to the trade, Tebow did not (until now).

I think we are straw grasping here trying to pinpoint one guy as dishonest or not. A guy was being traded and they both engaged in trade speak. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not disappointed in Tebow. My guess is he was trying to soften the blow for the Jags fans.

In fairness, couldn't Tebow have been using trade speak? You know, how Elway had to use "coach speak" and be a politician with Tebow?

I agree.

The reactions to this will go the exact way the first thread went. The Tebow supporters will spin it in a more positive way and those who aren't in his camp will go the opposite. Me not being a Tebow the QB supporter, I view it as that while Tebow didn't exactly lie, he certainly phrased it in a way to make it seem like Elway wasn't being truthful before. I don't really see how people can slice around him saying "I didn't have any say." It would have been more proper to state it as the final call was Denver's.

Did Tebow officially say anything until today about it? I'm asking b/c I haven't read anything about the trade besides the fact that it happened. I thought that sources near Tebow and his family had stated that the Jags were never an option.

I don't see why it really matters if he was lying or not. Personally, I think he did it to soften the blow to Jacksonville fans as Clyde said. No need to be disappointed in him. It doesn't make him a lesser person at all in my eyes.

 

Side note: I was really impressed with his interview I saw on SportsCenter today. I believe he will represent the Jets well, whether or not he performs on the field. Here's to hoping he finds a way to contribute to the team.
