Why is that? Talent level of the top 5 or 6 teams in the 9th region is usually on par with most regions best except the 6th, 7th, 10th and the 11th.

Usually maybe but not this year. If Boone Co. was the best the 9th had, the region was way down.

You seem to have a lot of angst against us NKY folk and the 9th region.

Instead of dancing around the elephant in the room does anyone have ages on Davis, Justice and Christon? I'm not used to seeing freshmen who look like that and Davis' physique is extremely mature for a senior in high school. Has Davis been hurt or something? He was grabbing his shorts sucking wind before the first quarter was over. I heard on the radio he has a 33 on his ACT. What does his future hold after high school? It looks bright. KCC should be playing Saturday. They have a nice team. I enjoyed watching them.

 

Justice is the age a 9th grader is suppose to be----he's 14.

I don't know about Knott's other players, but Justice hasn't repeated a grade. But redshirting is common in the mountains and other areas of the state, probably more common in football than basketball.

 

As for Davis' body built, a Knott Countian sat behind me at the tournament and he said Davis lifted weights for one hour every morning and one hour in the evening. He said he was playing on determination alone because he didn't have any cartlidge left in his knees. He missed his sophomore season because of knee surgery.

I'm going on what several Knott County people told me. I think he turns 15 pretty soon, which would put him graduating at 18.

I was impressed with Justice. He really didn't do much in the Boone County game but you can see his ability and he did have some nice plays that showed his ability. I would not rank him ahead of Brandon Hatton at the same age, but Justice is definitely a player to watch.

He sure is strong with the dribble. Foul trouble kept him off the floor sadly. And that may have taken a toll on Knott in the second round because Davis was relied on to handle pressure in the first round and with his inability to condition properly, I think that was a factor. Normally, Justice is the man running the show, and he does it very well. I hope to see him and Knott again at Rupp. Fun to watch.

The refs had a big impact on this game on both sides. Justice and Downs both picked up fouls that they shouldn't have. They called a lot of ticky tack fouls. Downs did his usual very good job on defense and that affected Justice as much as the fouls. He did nothing while Downs guarded him. Then when Justice got in foul trouble and Davis went crazy, Boone moved Downs over to guarding Davis and that shut Davis down as well. But Downs got 3 fouls in the first half also and that hurt Boone a lot.

 

The third foul called on Downs was about the worst call I have seen in a basketball game. Downs on Davis 5 feet beyond the 3 point line. Davis just holding the ball. Downs pokes at the ball. Maybe he touched him, maybe he didn't. Davis still holding the ball after Downs pokes at it and doesn't even flinch. A play you will see a half dozen or more times in every game with no call. But for some reason the ref blows the whistle. There was no impact on the action or the play at hand but he calls a foul anyway. I don't know that I have ever seen a foul called like that.
