I agree with Nets, but I would say that the Bishop Brossart team that lost it's big man to injury a couple of years ago was capable of winning the title (they lost to Mason County and Chris Lofton).

 

That was a very solid team.

I like Cubster's poll it seems fair and as acurate as possible to me. Having watched Greenup, Raceland, Fairview, Elliott, Rowan, Lewis, and Rose Hill quite a bit over the past couple of weeks I think it is fair to say that there isn't a great deal of separation amoungst those teams. For my money I like both Fairview and Elliott.

 

It is interesting that Ashland beats Letcher Co. and West Carter and all their supporters are predicting a rise to the top.

No "Candy and Nuts" argument here. I was courtside at that game, and St. Henry was playing excellent basketball. When they lost the big man due to injury, they were unable to overcome Mason County. Did Mason County have any injuries? Heck if I know - but they didn't lose Lofton during that game - which is what effectively happened to St. Henry.

 

Regardless, my point is that St. Henry was a 9th Region team that did well at the State Tournament - and, in my opinion, might well have won it, had the big man not gone down. In other words - they represented the 9th Region VERY well - and should be recognized as having done so.

The other big kid led them in scoring that year so your post about that is pointless. Yes they lost to Mason by 1 point does that give them a state title no. Mason had a tough semi-final game if you remember sitting there. Ballard was beaten soundly in the title game but wasn't a pushover for St. Henry. If you consider them representing the 9th so well what about other teams such as Ryle losing in the first round to a very good Warren Central team or Holmes doing the same last year? Do you only remember Lofton? Come on Aunt Bee use more than one 9th region team to back up your point.

The entire point of my post was not to belittle Mason County, or any of the teams that have represented the 9th Region over the years. I was simply making the observation that I thought that the St. Henry's team was a solid team that did well, and might have gone further, had it not been for the injury to their big man (who was having an excellent game). If I were a St. Henry alumni, or came from the 9th Region (which I don't), I would have been very proud of how St. Henry played in the State Tournament that year.

 

I don't attend the State Tournament every year (I try to go as often as I can), and I don't remember every game that I do see. I did not see the Ryle/Warren Central game, but I did see the Holmes/Warren Central game. In answer to your point, yes - Holmes played very well. In the case of St. Henry, they were playing the pre-tournament favorite, and lost by two points (not one). After that game, the closest game Mason County had was a twelve point win over Hopkinsville in the semis. That made the two point loss by St. Henry stand out even more in my mind. If they had drawn anyone other than Mason, they might well have made it to the finals.

 

We all have our opinions on games played in the past, and for me, that was an excellent St. Henry team, playing extremely well. Certainly no reason for someone from the 9th Region to feel like the St. Henry team was an embarrasment.

I doubt that you made it to the AIT. If you had, then you would not have balked at ranking Ashland ahead of Russell at this point.

 

At the AIT last year, Russell was 1-7, and we know what type of run they went on after that. That may well happen again this year (Dodd is an excellent coach), but until they do, based on both teams' performances last week, Ashland probably should be ahead of Russell.

 

I haven't seen Elliott or Fairview, but there is no more reason to rank them ahead of Ashland rather than vice versa. As I said earlier, the next two weeks will see a lot of this shake out, but at this point, not enough 16th Region teams have played each other to make any concrete rankings. Consequently, AT41's opinions are as valid as anyone else's.

so far.Ashland,Greenup,Elliott,and West.But

your right there is alot of basketball to be

played.BC next three games are Johnson Central,

Russell,and then Farview should be a good test

for the lions.
