After seeing both Morgan Cty and Boyd Cty recently I would expect an early 1st round exit for either in the State Tourney.

Looking at some of the top teams from other regions that might likely end up in Lexington I will stand by my original comment. 1 and out for the 16th..

Wouldn't be anything new would it Bigzig? 16th doesn't have the best record in the world. And speaking of regional representation, the 9th region has gotten raised eyebrows after the eggs some of those teams have laid in Rupp Arena, excluding COV CATH's final 4 performance of 2004, a team I really thought could have easily won the state championship.

 

However, I usually don't make a solid assumption about the future outcome of a basketball team based on 1 performance that I have seen them play. The 30 game + or - season has a lot of quirks in it and teams that play like world beaters in December usually have at least 1 game or a stretch where they look like a bunch of rejects.

 

Too much is made on BGP how great or bad a team is based on a single performance. Of course I do understand that if someone only views a team 1 time, it's hard to make a positive judgment of that team if they stink it up. So I can't disregard Bigzig's comments....totally, anyway.

Still think Ashland will be #1 in the next few weeks.

I agree. We need to continue to play like we did against West and we should be OK. I think we could beat any team in the region if the Tomcats come to play like that every night.

I agree with Nets, but I would say that the Bishop Brossart team that lost it's big man to injury a couple of years ago was capable of winning the title (they lost to Mason County and Chris Lofton).

 

That was a very solid team.

I liked the Cov Cath team better than the Brossart team. No disrespect intended.

 

Nestheide, Votel, Kennedy were tough and Stephen Muck was the X factor that made the Colonels click. They were a formidable team that could defend well and SCORE.

 

Of course I'm happy for a close friend winning the state championship in Kelly Wells, but would have also loved to see Mike Listerman get a Championship as well. Maybe so in the future.

I certainly can't and won't disagree with you regarding the 9th regions performances over the years in the State Tourney. The 9ths record in the Tourney is certainly one of the worst over the years and I believe that is the result of until recently the 9th not playing enough downstate schools and I also believe the officiating in the 9th region where they insist upon constantly interjecting themselves into the game and as a result 9th regions teams just aren't prepared for a more physical type game. I do believe in recent years the 9th region teams appear to be making more of an effort to play in downstate tourneys and as a result I believe we might see them making a little progress at the State Tourney. As for the 9th's officiating it is still pretty much the same. BAD!!

As far as Boyd Cty or Morgan Cty I did only see them both play twice so you are correct they certainly may improve and I wish them the best although as far as Boyd goes I saw some talent but not much in the way of coaching.

Morgan County and Beechwood combined for 49 fouls in their game. 2 days later, Morgan plays much better defensively and more physical along with Lloyd and with 3:42 to go in the 4th quarter there was only 1 team foul apiece called on both teams :creepy: (for that half, I believe it was less than 16 or so fouls combined for both teams for the game)

As for the cooking, I'm planning out the New Year meal as we speak. I was thinking of something along the lines of:

Garlic Fried Chicken (not too much garlic, though)

Mesquite Smoked Ham with a Brown Sugar Coating

Soup Beans and Cornbread (with onions)

Mashed Potatos

Fried Corn

Potatos Au Gratin

Green Beans (cooked WITH the hamhock)

Cabbage and Black Eyed Peas (per request)

Handrolled Buttermilk Biscuits

Cherry Cobbler

Apple Pie with Cinnamon

and of course, your choice of beverages....

Yes, BIGZIG - you are correct. I meant the St. Henry team, and confused them with Bishop Brossart. Not being Catholic, I tend to get confused on the various Popes, Bishops, Cardinals, Saints, and Our Ladies.

They have to perform to get the credit. They got out of the blocks slowly just as your Devils have.

 

If the Devils win it would not be an upset. With both teams occupying the 7 & 8 spots Russell would be the favorite since they are at home in The Furnace. If they win decisively they will get a bump in the poll, as will the Ramblers see some downward movement.

 

Since Cubster has Russell 6 and Raceland 10, is it safe to assume that should Raceland win they too would get a jump in his poll? Using his poll the Devils should be a 20 point favorite considering they are at home?

I want to clarify my "Musketeers - Might dominate an All A League" jab. Made in jest towards the schedule GC has.

 

The kids and old guard at GC know I root for them, I have great friends there. But for a school that once represented one of the "Big 3" in this region, a schedule that has: Jackson City twice, Green, Elliott, Fairview twice, Rose Hill, Augusta, Raceland, Menifee, West Carter, Port. West, and avoids playing Ashland twice has to be willing to take a little needling.

 

Nothing against any of those teams in the list, but a school the size of, and with the basketball history of Greenup Co. should face a more challenging schedule.

Im in agreement with the cubsters poll, however i think the boys in maroon are for real and will make a climb on the poll soon.
