  1. The Flyers fell short of the state semifinals a season ago, exiting with a 10-3 record via a 13-7 loss in overtime against Knox Central. They'll open 2019 at an East Jessamine squad that moves up in class to 5A this year, going 4-7 in 4A last season, and falling to John Hardin in the first round of the playoffs. Will East Jessamine be able to defend their homefield or will the Flyers.... uh, fly?
  2. The Flyers keep, er, flying high as they stormed to a perfect record in their district with a 47-14 smattering of North Oldham a week ago. They tune up for the playoffs by visiting Tates Creek, who come in at 4-4. Last year the Creekers took Franklin County down 14-9. Can Tates Creek pull it off again or will Franklin County win their sixth in a row?
  3. Franklin County is 4-2 and has a vice grip on District 4, a rarity for the most balanced district in 4A. Their two wins over the Shelby County schools has staked them to a 2-0 district start, with only 2-5 Spencer County and 3-3 North Oldham between them and homefield advantage in the first two rounds of the postseason. Spencer County was thumped by the same Collins team that Franklin County dominated last Friday, so comparative scores would seem to favor the Flyers. Can they move within a game of district control?
  4. The Flyers successfully navigated their first big hurdle in District 4 with a road win at Shelby County last week, pulling out the victory 14-6. This week they take on a vastly different Collins team from the one that laid a 45-7 loss on them a year ago. Collins just got their first victory of the year, raising their record to 1-5 with a 34-14 win over Spencer County. Franklin County has never beaten Collins - if they can do it now then there's a good chance they'll already have realistically wrapped up a district title. Is this the year?
  5. The Flyers are licking their wounds after a 42-21 loss to 5A #7 Anderson County, a decision that dropped them to 2-2 overall. They'll open district play at the dangerous Shelby County Rockets, who are 3-2 and fresh off a road win at Bullitt East by a 7-3 score. The home team has won this game each year since Shelby County entered the district in 2015, a good sign for Shelby County. Can Franklin County maintain their favorite status in district 4, or will the Rockets avenge their 30-3 loss from last season?
  6. North Oldham (3-6, 0-3) travels to Franklin County (6-2, 1-2) to battle for a spot in the playoffs. The winner gets in and the loser stays at home. Will the Mustangs miss the playoffs for the first time since 2006? Or will the Flyers be left out for the first time since 2009?
  7. This is by far the best game in 4A this week. Franklin County had been rolling to a 6-0 start, but it came crashing down around them via a 23-0 loss to Collins, which dropped them to 1-1 in the district. Meanwhile, Spencer County is off to the best start in school history at 7-0, which includes a win over the same Collins team two weeks ago 35-14. They're 2-0 in the district, and can put a stranglehold on the crucial #1 seed with a win here. Who takes it down?
  8. Now, the real game begins. Franklin County has been a mainstay in the rankings all season long, and is out to a 5-0 start. Shelby County is a rising star, also 5-0. One will have a huge district win and remained unblemished, while the other will take a half step back. Which is which?
  9. Franklin County fired the opening salvo of the intense District 2 race last week, edging out previously unbeaten Shelby County 31-28. Collins tried to keep pace, but blew a 4th quarter lead on the way to what ultimately was a blowout on the final score in falling 35-14 to Spencer County. Collins gets this on their home turf, but they've actually lost three straight there. Can Collins draw even in the standings with the Flyers, or will Franklin County clear another large hurdle on their way to the district crown?
  10. Hopkinsville got back on track via a 39-0 decision over Madisonville, and this week will have a Thursday night special against winless Logan County. It's a classic mismatch, and should be over quickly. Despite this poll, the question is more, how bad will it be?
  11. The Franklin County Flyers make their 4A debut, hosting the 2A ranked Shelby Valley Wildcats. Which team starts their season on the right foot?
  12. The offense didn't fly quite as high for the Flyers in their win last week over Western Hills 20-7, but Franklin County is 2-0 nonetheless. They'll travel up in class to take on 1-1 Woodford County, fresh off a 28 point win over West Jessamine. Flyers versus Yellow Jackets, who takes this aerial battle?
  13. Another week, another Franklin County win, and they've settled in to that #4 spot in our rankings. Their latest victim was 5A Woodford County by a 56-35 margin. This week they take on rival Frankfort, which has not had an easy go of it. They've started 0-3 after last season's strong 10-3 campaign. Last season, this contest was a tooth and nail 22-13 result. Do the Panthers have any hope of hanging with the Flyers?
