  1. Hopkinsville enters 2016 as perhaps the most intriguing dark horse candidate to unseat South Warren. They have the one dimension that basically every other 4A team lacks - a passing game. QB Jalen Johnson threw for 31 touchdowns and over 2,100 yards last season, with that air raid attack leading the Tigers to a district title for the first time in a decade, and their first 10 win season in 13 years. His leading receiver and rusher return as well to lead the potent offense. A year ago, they used this opening game against Graves County to make a resounding statement, turning a 42 point loss in 2014 into a 27 point win in 2015. Will they declare they are ready for a serious run with another statement or can Graves County regain their footing, and put a 5-6 2015 campaign behind them?
  2. Series History: Graves County leads 4-0 Series at Graves County: Graves County leads 2-0 Playoff Meetings: First Meeting These two teams were district rivals from 2003-2006, the only years they have ever played against each other. During that time, only one meeting was closer than a 17 point Graves County win, that coming in the first year of the series by a 17-14 score. Greenwood has stumbled to a 3-7 record on the year. Can they put together a massive upset?
  3. Series History: Warren Central leads 10-1 Series at Graves County: Warren Central leads 4-0 Playoff Meetings: 11/6/1992: at Warren Central 27 Graves County 6 11/12/1993: Warren Central 22 at Graves County 20 11/14/2003: at Warren Central 44 Graves County 10 11/11/2005: at Warren Central 28 Graves County 14 11/10/2006: at Warren Central 41 Graves County 17 11/4/2011: at Warren Central 55 Graves County 21 11/9/2012: Warren Central 21 at Graves County 14 That's a 7-0 record in playoff matchups for the Dragons if you're not keen on counting. The historical notes favor Warren Central decisively. They lead the overall series and the only Graves team to beat Warren Central was coached by the man who leads the Dragons now, Mike Rogers. Though three of the matchups were at War Memorial Stadium rather than the new Graves County stadium, Warren Central has never lost in Mayfield to Graves County, though three of the matchups were within 7 or less including both playoff matchups. The Dragons have never lost a playoff game to Graves though, again, both of the ones played in Mayfield were within one score. But what is probably most important to Graves County is this: They have been to the second round 8 times and 8 times they have lost - five of those were to Warren Central. This and that the Dragons have personally ended their season the past two years would seem to make the Eagles particularly hungry to stop those trends now. Graves County enters with one of their best records in school history, a sterling 9-2. The Dragons meanwhile are well off their pace from the last three years thanks to a brutal schedule, and are just 6-5. The teams share two common opponents, with the Dragons topping Hopkinsville and Greenwood by 38 and 30 respectively while Graves won by margins of 34 and 14 respectively.
  4. Final from the Marshall County Hoopfest. The game began as a game of runs, with the Dragons scoring the first five points, followed by an 11-2 Graves County run, and that followed by 15 straight points by Warren Central. Following that, the Dragons never trailed but never enjoyed as large a lead as the 22-11 advantage they held at the end of the first quarter. Graves successfully made it a tight game at the end as Warren Central could not put it away with free throws, but ultimately Central survived an airball three point attempt for the tie.
