  1. Those are impressive numbers. Wish he was wearing red instead of blue next year.
  2. Scout, you make good points. Baseball is not just hand-eye, speed and power certainly make a difference. Overall though, it is a skills game. X and T simply have more competiton from the publics to attract those skilled players. In football, we tend to attract some of the better non-catholic grade school kids. The same is not true in baseball. X and T both have committed players and excellent coaches. But baseball is not a game where you can beat a team by having 60 or 70 kids that can throw 75 mph and hit .275.
  3. I would move him to the 3 spot provided you had a strong 4 hitter that would prevent teams from just pitching around him.
  4. Scout, it is true that on any given Friday X and T's opponent may have as many or more D1 prospects. The difference IMO is that X and T will have 30 or 40 football crazy, smart, better than average athletes in every class. This translates into no weak spots and depth. Sounds like a cliche, but superior coaching, conditioning and player committment also plays a huge role. Baseball is all hand-eye, some kids just will never be able to hit a curve ball no matter how many cage swings they take.
  5. I'll take shot at this one from the perspective of an X grad and parent of an X footballer and baseballer. Two reasons, (1) the differences in the two sports and (2) talent disbursement. First, X is not dominant in baseball but they are almost always very competitive. Same with T. Baseball, though a team game, is won and lost by individual skill. Pitcher versus batter. No teammate can help the pitcher throw strikes, nor can a teammate help you hit the ball. Individual performances from one or two players on the mound or getting clutch hits usually decides the outcome of a close game. Plus baseball is just a "funny game". You can have nine guys that hit the ball sharply every time up but if if the baseball "gods" are frowning and you hit it right at people you don't have much to show for it on the scoreboard. Football is different in that you have 11 guys playing together on every snap. One stud back usually won't beat X and T. You still need a line and some other weapons to put points on the board against X and T. Finally, I'll say the feeder system that provides the talent plays a large part The CSAA(catholic grade school) football feeder system has served X and T very well over the years. The coaching and competition is very good. The same can't be said for CSAA baseball--other than the YMCA it is the least competitve form of youth baseball. Travel ball, Little League and Cal Ripken are much more competitive. Those programs don't directly feed into X and T. PRP, Male, Ballard, Eastern, and Manual all have top notch baseball programs with excellent coaches that offer an attractive "free" alternative to X and T. In football, X and T are like the old Porsche slogan--"There is no substitute".
  6. Hats off to Central for playing a very tough football game. 22 was the points this team allowed all year and all were against 1st team D. If not for long runs and returns by Daylen Hall and Lamont McMurray Central wins this one.
  7. 1's played most of the way...very last series 2's came in.
  8. The X defender is Matt Anderson. The Tiger sideline erupted on that play because Matt is a backup and stands all of 5'5.
  9. I thought Highlands played much better in the second half, holding the Tigers to just 1 TD while posting 2 of their own. That was impressive. I credit the Birds coaching staff for keeping their kids heads up and inspiring them to play faster and harder in the second half.
  10. I thought Marshall Countians refferred to their school simply as "Marshall" or "the Marshalls"...When I hear "county" I immediately think of Christian County because that's what so many of their fans call the school.
  11. We haven't been challenged by quality opponents other than Trintiy and Moeller. We lost to each by a TD and squandered away two scoring opportunites inside the 10 against Trinity. We are a very good JV team. We do have a common opponent in Lex Cath.
  12. His age will be a plus come recruiting time. Schools will drool thinking about the muscle they can put on a 16 yr. old junior with his speed.
  13. Duece has been hampered by a knee injury...he broke out against Trinity with 150 plus yards and a TD. Technically though he may still be running second team behind Jeremiah Neal. I will say that out of Louisville the big three of Green, Finch and Phillips have not piled up the stats like many thought they would. Green is now down with an injury. Phillips was bottled up against Lou and Cincy X, but that's probably more a function of great defense and a banged up Rocks O-line.
  14. They'd be crazy not to find touches for Daylen next year. Kickoff and punt returns for sure. I would start him at strong saftey and also give him 3 or 4 offensive series at RB. Pro set, with Neal lead blocking, wow!
  15. Has he been converted to RB? If so, good move by X. He runs much better than he throws.
  16. Sounds like he was talking about X. You talking about the movie Rudy? The speech most often used is the Coach Dan Devine line: "Gentlemen, this is our house. Nobody, and I MEAN Nobody, comes into our house and pushes us around."
  17. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/football/poll/2008-super25.htm I know, means nothing...but nice recognition for the program.
  18. 7 Eastern 5 North Hardin 3 Manual 2 Fern Creek 1 Fairdale TB Eastern
  19. Trinity is a December team. They had two starting O-linemen out which hurt they're passing attack. The rematch will be much closer.
  20. Did anyone attend the X-Trinity luncheon at the Galt House? Great turnout for a great cause(catholic education foundation). Beatty gave a moving talk about his greatest memory from the rivalry being in 03 when his players carried his sick Dad onto the field after beating X. Glaser had the funniest memory-- Coach Lampley being run over by one of his own players. Beatty also commented that after watching CincyX and Don Bosco play(X beat Bosco, and Bosco just beat #9 De LaSalle) he thinks Lou.X and Trintiy are both deserving of being nationally ranked.
  21. D-line is solid, senior dominated. Linebacking corps is young and improving each week, led by a sophmore(Beech) and junior(Snellen) who are both first year varsity players.
  22. X 20 T 17 OT 7-7 at half 14-14 at end of regulation
